Trading Deadline is done.

The smoke is clear and the trading deadline has come and gone, time to see where the Mets and Yanks are at as we get ready for the final push.

This year the Mets are not where they thought they would be so they were sellers. They no longer have Lucas Duda who went to TB for a pitcher name Drew Smith, and Addison Reed went to the Red Sox for 3 minors league players. The Mets still have Asdrubal Cabrera, Jay Bruce and Curtis Granderson who they were trying to move but with no luck.

The Mets also did a little buying by acquiring Marlins closer AJ Ramos in a trade for 2 minor league players, I guess the Mets needed to fill in the void in the closer roll but I'm not that trilled about this move.

Other than that not much else was done by the Mets who must continue on with their 2017 disappointment of a season. Things will get better staring tonight as the Mets have finally called up Amed Rosario. Look for the Mets to call up Dominic Smith in about another week but that's about it for now when it comes to the Mets.

On the other side of town we have the Yankees who this season have turned thing around from sellers in 2016, to buyers in 2017. The Yanks have been a surprise so they are all in going forward as some major improvements have been added in the last couple of weeks.

The Yanks have already added David Robertson and Todd Frazier in the mix, along with pitcher Tommy Kahnle who they all got from a deal with the White Sox for Tyler Clippard and a few low level prospects.

Things got even better last night when it was announce that the Yankees had added Sonny Gray to their rotation in a deal with the A's. The Yankees also added lefty starter Jaime Garcia in a deal with the Braves on Sunday so as you can see the Yankees aren't standing pat. Look for some more minor moves going forward but it's clear that the Yanks have set themselves for a possible run.

With some 50 plus games still in the 2017 season, we have 2 teams going in different directions, the Mets look to finish out the season on a positive as they turn the page to 2018, and than you have the Yankees who are looking for big things. Not much excitement in Queens, but it will be interesting to see if the Yankees can win the division-or make it as a WC, but one thing is for sure- they need to get in.

Rico Carty trusted no one.

Ron Darling was on the Mike Francessa show and they we're talking baseball. During their conversation the topic somehow touched on Rico Carty who was a flamboyant Dominican ballplayer from back in the day who played MLB from 1963-79.

Anyways during the conversation with Francessa Darling said of Carty, that he was the type of player who would go out on the playing field with his wallet on him because he thought he would get robbed if he left it in his locker.

That had me thinking and so I did a little research and low and behold look what I found.

Looks like Rico's packing a hefty wallet.

The 2nd Half Begins

It's been a while since my last post but what can I say? You see my Mets have not performed to my expectations and so my interest has been on other things and not baseball. But at the same time I feel like I got an obligation to myself so here I am again trucking on.

It was June 9th and in that last post it was all about the NY Yankees who at the time where the early surprise of MLB, but not so much of late, but more of them in a minute.

The Mets were already some 10 games back in the standings and I had already given up hope to the season calling it a year in which it was not meant to be. Once again it was the injuries which had sunken the Mets, and all that was left for me to keep me excited was a call up from Amed Rosario. That has not happened yet as I still wait for the day when the NY Mets can inject some excitement back into the fanbase.

Today is July 14th so as you can see it's been over a month as the Mets still linger in that not meant to be mode. They are 39-47, in 4th place, and still today there is no Rosario and as we get closer to that infamous trading deadline where real changes can happen.

I try to be optimistic but I'm instead looking for excitement, that is why I want the Mets to give this season up and bring up Rosario and Dominic Smith and move on, sell, and prepare for next season.
I said many times before that this is baseball and anything can happen but at the same time why not do a little of both.

What I look forward in the 2nd half is of course these 2 prospects plus I want to see how Michael Conforto finishes off his 1st full season. Others I am keeping my eye on is Steven Matz and Zack Wheeler, both who need to set it up and show more. Matz needs to stay healthy and put together an impressive 2nd half the rest of the way and same goes for Wheeler.

As far as the Mets being sellers, I like what Jay Bruce has done this season, I have been clear in the pass about Bruce not being my type of player, but he's been able to change my mind this season. Bruce has proven to me that he is one of those players that always plays hard and cares, but the problem for Bruce going forward with the Mets is that he just does not fit in the plans. The Mets need a CF and Bruce plays in RF and I think that positions belongs to Conforto so the Mets need to trade Jay Bruce and get some chips. As far as everybody else on the team, like to keep guys like Addison Reed but I'm pretty sure he may be a goner soon, Wilmer Flores is another I would keep because he's clutch and worth keeping IMO. Obviously Jacob deGrom isn't going no where but the rest who are here and healthy are expendable.

And now let's look at the NY Yankees....

In my last post the Yankees were 34-23, in 1st place as the "Baby Bombers" had changed the plans in their 1st year of transition baseball, but since then the Yanks have struggled mightily to win games and have taken a hit.

Injuries have played a roll but I just think that the kids have found out that this is not as easy and it was early on and that things have just even out a bit. Since June 9th the Yankees record is 10-17, yea things have not been so good but still you have to be happy with the 45-41 record today and the fact that they have a new star that they can honestly hang their hopes when it comes to the offense going forward.

Aaron Judge is the real deal, the guy is a monster who we once compared to Giancarlo Stanton physically and now he has surpassed all that in just his 1st full season. The guy is a machine like presences and his raw power reminds me of the Rocky 4 and that Russian dude Ivan Drago, Judge is a freak!

Yea Aaron Judge has taken over and if the season ended today you have to give him the MVP. Pair him with Gary Sanchez and the new cat, Clint Frazier, and the Yankees seem to have their young nucleus with a few more down in the system getting their seasoning, but it seems to be all offense. This is the opposite to the Mets and their pitching nucleus.

What really impresses me about these 3 is that all 3 have their heads on right, when you here them talk, you can tell that they are all business, no joking around that you see in players like Jose Reyes, just to give you an example.

As far as the pitching goes I think the Yankees will have a tough time and that their chances of making the playoffs will rely on Masahiro Tanaka giving them a much better 2nd half.

As I writing this while listening to WFAN-there is a news flash, Michael Pineda is out for the season with the dreaded Tommy John, so things just got a little tougher.

It wont be easy but the Yanks have a chance to get things back on track and a possible playoff berth is still within reach, there is excitement in the BX and more noise to be made with the young cats running the show and it starts today vs the 1st place Boston Red Sox.

Yankees have change of plans.

Took some time to write something about the NY Yankees since they are the one's worth writing about these days. So here it goes, help me out.

We are a little over 2 months into the season and the NY Yankees are in 1st place, currently 11 games over 500, at 34- 23, this was not supposed to be but here we are today.

This was supposed to be the year in which the "Baby Bombers" learned how to get better for the future, many of us were expecting some growing pains but in their 1st full season of transition baseball, the Yanks find themselves sitting pretty.

The catalyst for this season's surprise has been Aaron Judge who has taken over NY, last season it was Gary Sanchez who was the talk of the town but a slow start and injuries have turned all the attention towards Judge who has killed it.

If the season ended today we may have to give Aaron Judge the MVP, that's how good he has been.
So far the Yanks have had no problems scoring runs and the pitching has held up, they are 4th when it comes to ERA, and 3rd in team batting.

If things continue to fall in place the Yanks will have to make some re-adjustments going forward cause this is the NY Yankees and they are not going to let an opportunity pass them by. The plans have obviously changed going forward for now.

So far so good but still a long ways to go, the Yankees were supposed to take their lumps in 2017 but this is baseball and the Yanks have come too play.

A season at a lost.

I know it's been a while since I last posted but what can I say? The season has come off the rails for my Mets and I needed a couple of weeks off to get away from all the mess.

It was a much needed break because when the season began this was not what I had expected from the Mets, most had penciled in the Mets to be one of the 10 teams to be making a run at the playoffs, but as the injuries mounted, the once promising season took a quick turn for the worst and now everything seems bleak as the Mets look more like a team that is rebuilding.

The Mets are just awful right now and in a way I had bailed out on the 2017 season, it was just hard for me to see the Mets become unwatchable in the sort of way that the Knicks have, but I knew I be back for more because baseball is too long of a season to completely bailout on so here I am again trying to be optimistic in a season that looks completely lost.

Right now I just wait for better days because I'm not going to stomach too much of what I saw this past Sunday when Met's starter Tommy Milone gave up 5 runs in the 1st inning, as I once again I had to change the channel and tune out.

This was suppose to be the year that the Mets staff came together but those expectations have fallen short. I understand it is only May but the Mets team ERA sit at 5.14 and that is last in all of baseball and that's all you need to know about the state of the Mets.

There is still over 100 games to go so the Mets still have time too turn things around, I'm just scared that this might be one of those seasons where the baseball GODS are just not on the Mets side.

On the other side of town the Yankees who were supposed to be rebuilding, have continued to be a surprise while the Mets who were supposed to be the team to go places has struggled to win games.

Yea this season has turned ugly and I don't know if the Mets have what it takes but too many games remain to be played, so play ball and Lets go Mets!

Matt Harvey

Matt Harvey has rub me the wrong way more than once and this past Sunday he did it again.

It has been a while-but I have to say that the last time Mets fans actually looked up to Matt Harvey as someone who we could count on, or as an ace who we once called the Dark Knight, we have to go back to the 2015 world series. Back than Harvey had it, what we have now is a clown in disguise.

I have called Matt Harvey a prima-donna and even made references to drug use, you may not believe me but I used to like Matt Harvey but now he just comes off as a real dick, he rubs me the wrong these days in the way that AROD use to.

He comes off as someone who is privileged and lately he just makes excuses whenever he comes up short on performance and I'm tired of it.

This past Sunday the Mets were looking to turned things around to their slow start to the season and a strong performance and win by Matt Harvey who had put the Mets at an even 500. The Mets were looking for Harvey to deliver the type of performance we once came to expect but it was just another let down and more embarrassment.

Who knows what exactly went down but he was probably drunk or high when he'd showed up on Sunday but no one really knows, what we all know is that the Mets suspended Harvey for something he did and we all have to take it at that for now. I just like too throw in a few assumptions in the mix.

Tonight Matt Harvey makes his return to the mound, and again, all eyes will be on Harvey. I say don't hold  you're breath cause these day Matt Harvey is just a drama queens who let's his emotions get in the way.

For now Mets fans will just have to wait and see if they will ever see the Dark Knight again, I doubt it.

Mets looking old, Yanks having fun in the BX

It's early but the Mets are in the basement and they are not that same cohesive team of 2016. Right now the Mets look awful, they don't know how to run the bases and they look like a team that is playing scared and does not know what to do despite this being a veteran team. And now come the injuries.

Like snow in the winter it never fails when it comes to the Mets and injuries, they come in bunches and this week several more Mets hit the DL. I don't know what it is with this team but it's like the Mets staff and doctors have been cursed for like 10 years now.

Now you have Yeonis Cespedes going to the DL and now you here the rumors about Noah Syndergaard who I will be checking out tightly in his next start, as Noah's status may be up in the air as well.

It's only 1 month into the season but right now the Mets are far from being a championship team.

Cabrera and Walker have both looked old, especially Cabrera who looks like an injury waiting to happen, and defensively the Mets look like the 1962 Mets. Reyes has not looked good, Cabrera who last season surprised me the most with his defense has taken 2 steps back this season, at 1B you have Jay Bruce who is out of position and at CF the Mets don't have a true CF.

The Mets need a win and lately the starting pitching has been unable to come through, Robert Gsellman gave up 5, 1st inning runs in his last start and yesterday we saw Matt Harvey struggle and fall behind 2-0 early but the Mets tied in the 4th giving Harvey another chance, instead he gave it up the very next inning as the Braves tack on 4 more runs in the 5th to take back full control of the game as the Mets went on to lose their 6th in a row to fall to the basement of the NL East.

It was another badly played game by the Mets as you saw Cespedes leave the game early pulling his hammy again, and Harvey not deliver again when the team needed him. I know it's early but right now this team feels like an old team that is a year too late.

The Mets are 7.5 games back of the Nationals who are clearly the much better team right now and get ready tonight for 3 more vs. the 1st place Nationals, in Washington. Hopefully the Mets won't find themselves 10 games back after this series.

As for the Yankees...

In baseball anything can happen and right now it is happening for the Yanks, right now you have to feel good about the Yankees and the way they are playing. Tonight Didi Gregorious joins the team and Gary Sanchez will be back soon. Things are looking positive as the Yanks continue to play with house money early on.

I think the starting pitching has been a surprise so far, especially what I've have seen from Severino, Tanaka is Tanaka but if Severino can continue to play at the level he has shown so far, than the Yanks may have taken it to the next level.

That's all I got for now.
