Yankees swept in Boston
The beginning of the week started off promising for the New York Yankees who took 2 games from the Oakland A's at the new Yankee Stadium, but it was the next 3 games vs the Red Sox in Boston, where it began to get bad. After Jason Giambi and the A's left town, it was off to Boston for the Yankees 1st big meeting of the season vs. their arch rivals. It was looking good in the 1st game of the series when the game entered the 9th & the Yankees sent out Mariano Rivera to save the game and close out Boston with the save. But with a 2 outs and a 2 run lead Rivera served up a 2 run home run to Jason Bay to send the game into extra frames. In the 11th, Damaso Marte gave it up again, this time to Kevin Youkilis who took Marte deep for the 5-4 game winning walk off home run, as the Sox's stun the Yanks.
It would only get worst for the Yankees in the 2nd game of the series, when AJ Burnett who was up 6-0 gave it all up by the 5th. After Burnett it was the Yankee bullpen turn but no relief was available as the Yankees would go on to lose the game by the final score of 16-11. Once again the Yankee pitching was hit hard and offen as it was the 5th time this season that the Yankee pitching had given up 10 runs or more in a game.
Then there was last night game that was capped by a steal of home plate by Jacoby Ellsbury who caught Andy Pettite and Jorge Posada napping to complete the 3 game sweep. The Yankee bats could not respond as the Red Sox strike 1st and beat the Yankees 4-1. Not much can be said of the Yankees pitching of late except it needs to improve, especially in the pen where right now no one seems to be of any kind of reliability, but again, it is still early.
Up next for the Yankees is 3 games in Detroit, then 4 at home vs the Anaheim Angels.
