Game 1 rants.

The 2010 Subway series is here & at the moment my NY Mets are on a season low when it comes to performance. On the other side of town the NY Yankees are coming off of losing 2 too the 1st place Ray's so at the moment they need wins too. So with that said it is a perfect time for the Yankees to come in and face the Mets, yea both teams are struggling but right now the Mets are out of wack, so again perfect for the Yanks.

Like I said before this series began, all I'm looking for is to avoid the sweep, and if the Mets were to win a game in this series I thought game 1 would be it the one to get. The Yankees have never seen Takahashi & I have seen enough of Takahashi to understand that this guy at least has a plan when he is on the mound. That is why the Yankees couldn't figure him out last night, the problem for the Mets is that their bats continue to be nonexistence. Also Javier Vasquez did his job & if I'm a Yankee fan sure I'm a little excited because that is now back to back solid starts from the one guy Yankee fans want to make out to be their own Ollie Perez. He was good but could it be that he was facing a bad Mets team? I hate to shit on my team but I seen enough of the Mets lately too know what I'm talking about & this team right now is not that good when it comes to scoring runs, I mean Kei Igawa could look good vs these Mets right now. I guess I'm now shitting on Javier Vasquez but you decide.

So after 6 scoreless innings Takahashi leaves the game after making his 1st start of the season as the Yankees were now in business to try & do some damage. With the Mets bullpen in some trouble in came Elmer Dessens to make his season debut, and in the 7th the Yankees were able to crack the scoreless game with their 2 only runs of the game. It started when Nick Swisher greeted Dessens with a hit followed by a Francisco Cervelli fielders choice that Alex Cora turned into 2nd & 3rd & no outs when his throw sailed into left as Cora was trying to get the lead runner instead of playing it safe. Up next came Kevin Russo who then doubled for his 2nd ML hit of the game as he was the only Yankee out of all these Yankees to drive in any runs on this night, nice game rookie. Yanks on top 2-0.

The Mets had a couple of chances to do some things but of course they would come up short. 1st in the bottom of the 7th when they had runners on 1st & 2nd & 1 out, in came Joba Chamberlain to relieve the situation after Joe Girardi had brought in Robertson & Marte to consecutive batters, this was the 3rd pitcher in the inning against the lowly Mets as Joe must had thought he was still facing the Ray's. So with the Mets in their 1st real chance in the game Joba got the strikeout machine David Wright with a chance to do some damage, during the sequence of pitches to Wright, we saw Wright miss a hanging breaking ball that us Met fans were use to seeing David crush, but this season we have seen David miss these hangers way to many times to understand what was coming next, he missed his pitch and Joba induce Wright when he blasted a fastball on the outside corner that David took for a called strike 3! Joba then got Angel Pagan to swing on a 3 & 2 dirt ball that would had loaded the bases for the most clutch Met, Rod Barajas, inning over.

In the 9th in came Mariano Rivera and for his 3rd straight outing MO was not his usual self, he got Jose Reyes & Cora for 2 quick outs but then gave up what would had been a homerun in any other ballpark, a double to Jason Bay who could be seen frustrated when he reached 2nd, Bay has become this year David Wright as it is all in his head too. Up next to the plate was Ike Davis who was about to face the famous Rivera for the 1st time & on the very 1st pitch IKE too MO to the gap to make it 2-1 with David Wright up next with a chance to make Mets fans happy. But of course Mo would settle down or could it be that he had the floundering David Wright at the worse of times in his career ready for the 3rd out? Whatever the case, it was game over as Wright would weakly ground out to Cano to end the game as once again Wright would failed. The Mets are not going no where if David Wright & Jose Reyes continue to struggle, it is as simple as that. If Jose Reyes is not being Jose & setting the table, & David is not being Wright & driving in the big runs in the big situations, it is goodbye Mets & the rest of the Mets in this lineup will follow suit.

Tonight it will be a battle as Big Pelf will be taking on Phil Hughes & his 5-0 mark. Mike Pelphey can pitch a gem tonight to try & get things even, but with the Mets hitters all out of wack Pelphey can pitch 8 strong innings and wind up losing with lack of runs support, all I want is to avoid the sweep!
