The Subway series Aftermath

It was good to get up on Monday and show face around the office among all the big head Yankee fans. The Mets had taken the 1st installment of the Subway series so I decided to take a day off with the writing & simply enjoy a feel good day on Monday. But it's Tuesday & as the Mets get ready for another big series with the Phils, 1st thing 1st. It was good to see that we can still count on Johan to win us a big game, it was good to see that Jason Bay is the goods when it counts, It was good to see that all in all we can still hang with the big boys. Before the series began I was ready to say that the only thing the Mets can be counted on was for plenty of improvement, that avoiding a sweep was all we can ask for from this team vs. the Yankees. Sure improvements will have to continue if this Mets organization wants to continue to see Citifield rock the way it did this past weekend. The Yankee's helped make it rock as they brought all that energy & excitement to CITI as they are known to do every where they go. If the fans can continue to come out and support the team like it did this past weekend, then maybe the guys on the team can feel appreciated cause we all know this fragile Mets team needs some love. Of course no one is coming to see a bunch of losers, so thanks to the now struggling NY Yankees for making baseball good around these parts once again.

Now let's break down the week and series. Like I said before the series all I wanted was for my Mets to avoid the sweep, they were not hitting at the time and even when they were mounting any kind of a threat the runners were only left to die. This could be said about the Yankees throughout this series as they became the Mets with RISP. When it counted they were the ones leaving runners on, and you can't blame the role players in that situation, Kevin Russo did his part, Francisco Cevelli continues to show you he belongs, & Marcus Thames showed you he can get a big hit, it was the big cats who could not deliver this week. After coming out of his April stinker Mark Texiera is back in funk, was it 1 for his last 29? C.C. Sabathia had his chance to close the door on the Mets but his performance on Sunday had to be the biggest letdown from the big lefty this season. A-ROD had his chances to be the back page hero but it was K-ROD who took the print. For the record, in the 3 games at Citi the Yankees could not go deep, probably their 1st stretch all season where they could not go long, and people want to bring the fences in? I love this place.

It was a 2-5 week for the Bombers who find themselves 5 & a half games back with Toronto & Boston not to far behind. It's a long season and everyone including the Yankees go through some bad times during a long season. Panic? I don't think so, once these guys get back to doing what they do I'm sure things will be back to normal in the Bronx. But for now they will have to weather the Storm & get back to playing good baseball. Hopefully for Yankee fans it won't take too long to get it straight, cause you know how they could lose it if they see their fame franchise stink up the joint for more then 2 weeks. You think the Mets have pressure? Just let this go on for another week and the Mets will be an after thought. It won't be easy as up next for the Yanks will be the Twins who will be looking for some revenge as they will host this time in their spanking new ballpark. It will be interesting to see how the Yanks bounce back from their worst week of the season, so hurry up boys cause Joe is looking a little tight.

As for the Mets it was nothing special but taking a series from the crosstown rivals is always a good week. It was a 4-3 week but the best part about it was seeing Jason Bay used the Yankees to boost his so far not so special season. He was on base in 9 straight at-bats looking locked & comfy for the 1st time in Citifield. Now if only David Wright can follow Bay's lead. Jose Reyes is another one who showed some signs of life with a couple of good games vs the Yankees so maybe this can get JOSE going, no way is he a 220 hitter. Yea the pitching seem to be a real problem but to be honest I'm glad that John Maine is finally hurt & that Ollie P is just taking up space in the bullpen. The Mets are better off having guys like R.A Dickey and Hisanori Takahashi take their spots in the rotation then those 2 losers who bring nothing but negativity to the rest of us who have to pay & watch them. Yea Takahashi will be missed out of the bullpen but getting back his homey Ryota Igarashi will be big IMO although he did not show much on Sunday, the guy was a little rusty but I have faith in the Jap. Nieve is Nieve & Feliciano is old reliable, K-ROD will always give you a heart attacks, still the Mets are better today, now talk to me after the Phillies series.
