Yankee legend Yogi Berra, seen here as manager of the 1973 Mets where he came up with his famous quote, (It ain't over till it's over) is Dead at 90.

Great man who lived a great life. Was listening to Vin Scully talk about him and he mentioned his 1950 season. Take a look at these numbers: 597 At Bats, 192 Hits, .322 Average, 116 Runs, 28 HR's, 124 RBI, 55 Walks and this incredible number - 12 Strikeouts. That is unreal.

Wow that's crazy about the strikeouts, I remember Guado use to talk about Joe Dimaggio and he would always say Dimaggio never struck out like this power hitters today, and that was back in the early 90's, now they be 180 to 200 strikeouts seasons. Anyways went and looked it up, the most Berra struck out in a season was 38 and Joe D 39, Crazy.

Yea Yogi was like a regular guy, the last of the great old timers, Whitey Ford is the only one left from those Joe D and Mantle days.

Here, I'll put the strikeouts in perspective for you. In 19 seasons Yogi Berra struck out 414 times, Joe D in 13 seasons struck out 369, Bryce Harper is 4 seasons has struck out 440 times.

Crazy when you put it that way, at the same time todays pitchers throw way harder. I believe that if they faced the pitchers of today Berra and Dimag would be striking out 100 times in a season considering they were power guys, that's just me. Still an accomplishment to do what they did during their era in the game.
