The 2015 MLB postseason gets underway tonight and to get things started the NY Yankees will host the upstarts Houston Astro's.
We already know that both NY teams are in it to win, and that both have struggled.
Still these are the playoffs and anything can happen especially in a 1 and done situation. The Yankees are hoping that the home fans can get behind them and will them to a victory cause for them it has not been easy. It's a win is a must and to get that win the Yankees have Masahiro Tanaka looking to extend the season. He's the man on the mound looking to stop the Astros offense as the bats look to score enough runs to win the game.
The question is who will come up with the big hit for NY tonight?
Right now the only ones you have any trust in the lineup are Carlos Beltran, Didi Gregorious and Greg Bird, but the rest don't really have your trust. Good thing this is the postseason and everyone starts over cause lately the Yanks have been lifeless for to long.
I haven't seen the starting lineup for tonight but if you're a Yankees fan you hope that Brett Gardner and Jacoby Ellsbury get on base, and that AROD and McCann can come through in this one game cause lately these guys have not. Right now you just don't have that good feeling about this team. They have struggled mightily and do not have your trust.
Yankees fans are hoping that tonight is different then we have seen of late, but if just doesn't seem like a likely scenario especially with the bomb C.C. Sabathia dropped on his teammates just before the playoffs. The timing could not have been worst, out of no where Sabathia pulls a Dwight Gooden on the Yanks but that's another story, today it's about this 1 game and extending things.
Again everything seems unlikely but it's 1 game and I believe this 1 game could favor the Yankees, the reason I say that is because right now the Yankees are not right for a series situation, they are better off in this elimination game. If they win they can start building momentum cause right now they don't have none.
As for the Astros, they are the up an coming team, they have the younger exciting players but if you look at this current roster they also have a bunch of older guys. The bullpen consist of a bunch of 30 something guys and they ain't that good. Still the Astros have the younger more exciting players and I give them the edge. They come in a year ahead of schedule so their playing with house money tonight.
They are the team with the players that can make things happens, guys like the energy of the team in Jose Altuve, one of the more complete players in the game today who can hurt you in many ways. A line drive hitter who plays that good defense and can hurt you with his speed, someone who can cause havoc. Another one is Carlos Gomez who can do many things just like Altuve but who has been mostly hurt of late.
The other is the 21 year old superstar who has put Puerto Rico back on the map when it comes to players coming of PR. To me Carlos Corriea is already the best SS in the game. He is a future top 3 player in the mold of Manny Machado but better. Another player who I believe the Yankees have to be careful with in this game is Evan Gattis.
On the mound for the Astros is the ace Dallas Keuchel. This will be the biggest game in his career and he has to do it on short days rest. The Astros need 7 innings from Keuchel but I don't see that happening. This is where I see the Yankees with a chance late in the game when Keuchel has to leave and the Astros bullpen has to take over.
Obviously if the Yankees are to win this game their bullpen has to come in with a lead and takes over. Yes the bullpen has been overtaxed of late but this is where the Yankees have the clear edge over most teams.
Well it's game time and good luck, now let's watch the game!

Well, it was a good season, it was really the season of 2 halves, the 1st was great, the 2nd was below average. Looking at this team, you can see that it has flaws and its older but on the other hand one can't help but to be excited about the Bird, Severino, Betances, Didi, Eovoldi, Miller, Refsnyder and further down the line Judge, Sanchez and Mateo and even more importantly the 63 million coming off after next season. So yeah, not happy about how it ended but feeling good going forward.
A season of 2 halves indeed, to be honest the 2nd half is what I expected from the Yankees all along. I told you earlier in the season preview how this lineup was too lefty in the lineup and that wound up to be so true. I understand the Yankees have stunk it up for 2 months now but when they face a lefty they really fall off.
The team is handicap on offense because they keep relying on the long ball and this is what happens once you get too these games where pitching takes over. The Yankee offense continues to relay on the base to base offense and on older pass their time guys like AROD and Teixiera, Beltran and McCann.
It's the same old stuff if you ask me.
We keep hearing about how the Yankees have these guys who are supposed to be ready and we already seen a couple but how many of these guys are really going to stick around?
If I were you I would only get excited about Severino and Bird but the other are just Yankee prospect and with the Yankees they usually just stay as prospects.
To be honest I don't believe in Refsnyder, the only reason the Yankees are giving him a shot now is because Drew got hurt, but earlier in the season they would stay with Stephen Drew even though it was clear to me that he is so pass his time and the Yankees still stuck with him. That just tells me the Yankees don't really believe in Refsnyder, but again we'll see. Same goes for Jose Pirela. We'll see about the Sanchez and Judge guys but I'm not sold because it the Yankees were talking about.
Let's see what the Yankees do with the $63 mil coming off but my guess is that they'll invest it right back via free agency, you just gotta hope that they invest it on the right guy.
Didi is going to be fine, that is the SS for 2016 and beyond, Bird is the 1B going forward but you still have another year of Tex slowing him up, hopefully Tex gets hurt and you can move on. Betances is a stud but Girardi needs to stop treating him like he is his only option. Luis Severino is already your #2. Eovaldi did have a nice season but I don't see him being more than a solid #3, still the guy has an arm and you don't give up on 100mph. Miller is signed for a few more years but Betances should be the closer starting next year.
The Yankees still have a few drecks who prolongs moving forward.
1- AROD
2- Teixiera
3-Chase Headley was a mistake and I believe he is still signed for another 3 years.
4- Same goes for Elsbury.
5- C.C. Sabathia, we gotta wait around till his contract expires.
The Yankees made the post season in 2015 but I believe that some bad seasons are coming up for the NY Yankees in the next few years.
So first thing, you get all excited about the Mets and their youngsters but then when I'm excited about the Yankees youngsters you take a shit on it? Ok...I see how it is.
To dismiss the young players without really seeing them? Seems short sighted to me, especially coming from a supposed fan of a team who has a historical knack for fucking things up time and time again.
2016 should be interesting because the Yankees will have Tex, Beltran and CC playing out their contracts and having the younger players take on a bigger role. As for the other players you mentioned, lets see if Alex even finishes out his contract. Headley is signed for 3 more years but at 13 mil per year so thats not bad, the bad one is Ellsbury who still has 5 more years. I don't think we'll see the Yankees give out 7 year deals anymore, I think those days are done.
Oh, tell your boy Matt Harvey to show up to practice.
I said I get excited about Severino and Bird, those are the guys I would get exciting about, I just don't feel the same about Refsnyder and that's just an observation.
I get excited about the Mets youngsters because look at what the Mets have compared to the Yanks, our entire rotation alone is out of this world, this is no knock this is reality. At the same time I don't get excited about guys like Logan Verrett or Eric Goeddel because I can kind of see that these guys are not on the same level as a Michael Conforto or even a Dilson Herrera who I do get excited about.
Sorry but I seen how the Yankees like to hype their players up over the years, and if someone does turn out to be good it usually happens unexpectedly, guys like Gardner, Betances and now Bird all seem to have come up without much fanfare, like a surprise, while the others that do get the hype are just that. Only Severino came up with the hype and stuck.
You seem to forget that not to long ago I was a Yankee fan and left them because this was one of the main reasons. You know I still follow them, although for the wrong reasons, but I still follow and keep a close eye and see what they do.
I'm always going to be leery about the Yankees and their prospects because when you look at the history that's really not their thing. Sure you should get excited about Severino and Bird, just don't forget this is the NY Yankees were talking about and understand that they will always lean heavily towards free agency when building that team cause that's how it's always been.
As for Harvey you already know how I feel about him, I want him out! he belong with the Yankees.
Not for nothing but I believe that guy has a drug problem, ever since I seen him pitching twice with a bloody nose I had those thoughts. On top of that he is a primadonna and is all about me, plus he has the devil on his side with Boras. If the Mets can trade during the offseason I will applaud them.
Again, you're failing to realize that the landscape of the sport has changed. Teams have to be better about developing their players because so much money is in the sport that teams can spend so of course the Yankees are changing with the times. Not saying that they haven't been guilty of over hyping players in the past but then again every team has done that at one time or another. Not their thing? Haha...Jeter, Posada, Williams, Mo, Pettite, Cano, Gardner, Betances..nah it's not their thing. What team out there is made up of just players that they have developed? Go ahead, I'll wait for you to name that team.
As for Harvey...well the Mets are in a tough spot because he's already an entitled, self promoting player and obviously they want him to do well in the post season but if he does it will only add to his attitude. I do know this, he better pitch lights out in the playoffs or the fans will completely turn on him. The bloody nose theory is interesting..and its not like the Mets don't have a history of players and drugs.
Of course I do realize that the landscape has changed and that teams like the Yankees can no longer just throw money at it. Have the Yankees made an effort to change and put some more focus on younger talent? Yes, but their main source of getting talent will always be through free agency. That's just a reality.
I understand it would be hard for a Yankee fan to except this as the true reality, but as they say, it is what it is. Just look at the GM, Cashman has probably the longest tenure ever, that tells me that things don't really change much. It's like a regime, it's kind of the same old thing.
And you bringing up guys like Jeter, Rivera, Posada, guys that came up 20 years ago is not a good case bro, we talked about that 100 times, you already know. I'm actually going to write an article about that 4 core Yankee team and how that came about, and how there is a resemblance with the current Mets stock of young talent.
Yes the Yankees have had Cano, Betances, Gardner and now Bird but those are the guys who have come up without any fanfare, unexpectedly, and that does not take away that they still came up the system but in terms of hype these guys were not. Who was the last hyped prospect who turned out to be good? Jeter? and now Severino?
Like I said before, Harvey was only going to be a Mets until he reached free agency, so we'll have him for 3 more years and let him go, but now we won't even have him for those 3 remaining years and I'm fine with that. He is not the only pitcher we have and right now I rather keep deGrom, Matz and Syndergaard over Harvey. Fuck him you have to move on. Hopefully he can win a few games for us now and sayonara.
Oh and in the 80's everyone one was on coke, you make it sound like only Gooden, Strawberry and Keith were doing coke in those days. Every team had their coke users, even today.
From Yankees president Randy Levine:
“On a practical level, I think this season was very successful,” he said. “I think it was successful for several reasons. I think we are a very unique franchise. Unlike many other franchises, we can’t go into five- or six-year tailspins and rebuild.
“What this season showed is we were competitive, made the playoffs, and yet you can see the future of a real core building. The fact that we saw [Greg] Bird, [Luis] Severino and [Rob] Refsnyder, and that we still have very young pitching with Severino, who is 21, and [Nathan] Eovaldi, who is 25, and [Masahiro] Tanaka, who will be [27], and [Michael] Pineda is still only in his mid-20s [27 in January]. You have a real core of players that are coming down the road with [Triple-A outfielder Aaron] Judge and [Single-A shortstop Jorge] Mateo.
So yeah I'm optimistic about the future. Next year might suck but I'm ok with taking a step back to take a few forward.
Man I don't care what these corporate guys on the Yankees have to say, what do you think they are going to say? that's what they do, look I understand that we didn't expect much from the yankees when the season began but once they got off to that great start and got themselves a 7 game lead on the division with 2 months to go, then fall off the rails and just barely hang on to make the WC only to lose it without scoring a single run, I'm sorry bro, you could say it was a successful year if you want to but if I was still a Yankee fan I would not be happy with that finish. They really sucked in those last 2 months and were really flawed offensively. The good thing is that yea they have a few guys to look forward to and they say there is more ready to come.
You could only be optimistic because as fans that's what we do but only time will tell if these youngsters are what they say.
Yo let me know your picks, I'm pretty sure u had the Yankees last night but let me see who u have the rest of the way.
I don't know, maybe I've mellowed out as I've gotten older or I'm just way more realistic about things. I watched this Yankee team all season and I knew that they weren't that good, that things were bouncing their way and it caught up to them. Am I happy with the finish? Hell no but overall am I ok with the season? Of course I am. This was a team that most people thought would be lucky to win 75 games and they ended up in the playoffs. So not sure exactly what it is that you're wanting me to say? That they should spend hundreds of millions on Greinke and Price? Trade Severino for some 33 year old player that'll help for 1-2 years? It was a nice season, the last 6 weeks didn't go well but they're laying groundwork for the future so all in all I can't complain.
So who did you have for tonight's game? What about the 2 ALDS? I have the Cubs and I'm taking Blue Jays in 4, Royals 4.
I have the cubs, I gave you my picks already, it's on the post b4 this one, my last tread.
