Last week recap

The long weekend got me off my schedule but here I am with a late and quick recap.

As always I start off with the Yankees who capped the week with a big win on Sunday in a game in which the Yankees managed only 1 hit. Jake Odorizzi had the Yankees in control no hitting them up until the 7th, with 1 out Odorizzi then walked Brett Gardner and Starling Castro followed and gave the Yankees the 2-1 lead with a HR as Odorizzi's no-hit dreams were put to sleep. It was a huge win for the Yankees who were able to salvage the week and avoid a tied for last place with the Rays.

Nathan Evoldi got the win and up his record to 6-2, it was Evoldi's 2nd win in the week as he also beat the Blue Jays earlier in the week. The Yankees bats have become silent and scoring runs has once again become an issue. With the win the Yankees came out playing 500 ball for the week going 3-3, the other winner was Masahiro Tanaka.

NOTE: Believe it or not, the Yankees were the 6th team this season to get only 1 hit, and the 3rd team to actually win the game. Amazing.

The Mets got the week started by 1st getting some revenge on the Nationals in Washington as Bartolo Colon and Steven Matz won their games but lost the middle game as Matt Harvey lost another one as the Mets took the series 2-1. The Mets then came back home to host the LA Dodgers in a weekend series in which they were honoring the 1986 Mets 30th anniversary. The Mets won the 1st game of the series in a game where Jacob deGrom got his velocity back and gave the Mets 7 strong innings of 1 run ball as the Mets bats were able to beat up Dodger prospect Julio Urias who was making his ML debut. Things got a little scary in the 9th when Jeurys Familia came in in a none save situation and gave up 4 runs as the Dodgers tied it at 5. Familia who had one tough week was then picked up by Curtis Granderson who led off the 9th with a walk off HR as everyone went home happy.

The Mets were set in game 2 as they celebrated the 86 team before the game and they had Noah Syndergaard on the mound to cap the special occasion. Citi field was rocking and early on Syndergaard was matching Kenta Maeda as the game was scoreless, but in the 3rd we all saw what happened as things quickly turned sour for the Mets and the 40 plus in attendance as the party was cut short when rookie umpire Adam Hamari overreacted and killed the show. It was as if Hamari wanted to make a name for himself and ejected Noah Syndergaard after letting one lose behind Chase Utley. No warnings were giving before the game and no one was hit but rookie umpire made judgement and put a damper on the Mets celebratory day and to make matters worst it was Chase Utley himself who singlehandedly capped the evening with his 2 HR's.

The Mets went on to lose the rubber game as Clayton Kershaw was the goods again but things did turned a little dicey for the Dodgers in the 8th when with runner on 1st and 2 outs Dodger manager Dave Roberts pulled Kershaw out of the game in favor of another lefty instead of going to his closer Kelly Jansen. The move blow up on the rookie manager when Curtis Granderson just missed a HR but instead tied the game with a triple but all that went for not as Jeurys Familia-in another none save situation came in and gave it up again. Mets lose and that was it.

The Mets finished the week at 3-3 but that game with the ump getting in the way really pissed me off and that's all I got.

Well, for the Mets game on Saturday when I saw the recap the umpire over-reacted. The ump was apparently a minor league umpire filling in. Good weekend for the Dodgers, taking 2 of 3. Mets are catching the White Sox at the right time as they're looking to take 2 of 3 from them.
Yankees can't hit, I think this will be a recurring theme with this team. Sucks because the pitching has been good but they can't score.

Well I really didn't notice it but apparently the Mets were the worst hitting team during the month of May, and in the last few games it is really showing. Today's lost to the White Sox was ugly.

Yanks can't hit either but I didn't expect them too. Back to the Mets they are playing more like those Yankees teams that only hit HR.

I just heard that about the Mets. Isn't it ironic that you use to rag on the Yankees all the time about being dependent on the home run and here are the Mets being dependent on the HR's. I wouldn't worry too much about the Mets, at least not yet.

Yea I remember that about the Yanks, and it is true about the Mets and I don't like it. Look it is what it is- that is what baseball has become in the last decade, everyone strikeouts and it is excepted. It seems like NL ball is a thing of the past and it is sad.

I don't worry about the Mets because of the starting pitching, but I wish they could do more things on offense.

Big loss for the Mets with David Wright being out 6-8 weeks and thats just before he can start working out again. Hate to say it but it might be time for him to wrap it up, I've always liked Wright, seems like a real good guy and you hate to see it end this way but he may be causing more harm than good at this point.

I agree that Wright should just hang them up, I here he needs like 4 hours just to get ready b4 a game and he'll probably continue to do that considering that he still has a lot of years remaining in that contract, sucks cause he is half the player. David Wright had turned into the Mets version of AROD with that contract.
