Once again we start this week with the boys from the Bronx who had 5 games on their schedule splitting 2 with the Rockies and taking another series from the Twins for a 3-2 week.
On Sunday, for the 2nd straight week, the Yankees were in position to sweep the Twins but once again Nathan Evoldi was unable to get the job done. It was Evoldi who took the ball the previous Sunday when the Yankees went for the 4 games sweep of the Twins and here was Evoldi again getting the ball and the task again. Evoldi gave the Yanks 6 innings of 6 hit ball but the long ball was his demise once again. The Twins bats socked him for 4 long balls but it was in the 6th were the Twins went back to back to back to pull away. The Yankees did have a winning week but it felt like a letdown putting a damper on what could have been a real successful week.
At the moment the Yankees stand right at the 500 mark at 37-37, they are still in 4th place 7.5 games out of 1st place of the Orioles who have begun to some distant on the rest of the division. With 10 games remaining before the all star break it will soon be make or break time for a Yankee team that has been hovering around the 500 mark all season long. So far the Yankees have been a big tease and soon it will be time for them to face reality and understand that this is not a team that is constructed to make a real run.
Unless the Yankees can put together a 8-2 record in their last 10 games and continue to tease us I don't see the point. The next 10 games will be huge deciding the future and moving forward and pieces like Beltran, Miller and Chapman should bring them some pieces back to build on, cause seriously this is not a team that has the right players that is going to make a serious run and it's time to move on. Like I have said before, if you're a knowledgeable Yankee fans, you are hoping that you're Yankees would fall flat in the next 10 games and get the process of going forward instead of this up and down BS. I think it's time to give the Yankee fans what I believe they really want and that is to sell those pieces, stock up, and bring up the Aaron Judge's and whoever is ready to come up and show and prove. The next 10 games will clear the decision making process.
Now on to the Mets...
This week the Mets had 6 games on the schedule getting off to a nice start by taking the 2 game series vs the defending champions Royals. Yea things got off to a nice start but it wasn't easy when on Monday to start the week off when 2 pitches in, Bartolo Colon got drilled on the pitching hand and had to be replaced. The Mets bullpen had to take over and in came Hansel Robles, Robles who lately has turned things around came in and got the win to save the day. In the 2nd game Noah Snydergaard got his 8th win but after the game you heard the news that he felt discomfort on his pitching shoulder so you worried that 2 more Mets might be heading to the DL.
The Mets then took their show to the road and took on the Braves looking for some revenge after getting swept at home by the lowly Braves the previous week. Matt Harvey took the ball in the opener and was coming off an L to the same Braves in that sweep series and came out of the game in this one with a 3-2 lead after 6 innings, but in the 8th Addison Reed who's been sensational all year long gave it up to Adonis Garcia, a 2 run blast as the Mets lost the opener 4-3. The Mets went on to win the next 2 games and on Sunday they were set to take the series as Bartolo Colon was able to make the start and gave the Mets 7 strong innings of 1 run ball but the Mets bats could not figure out Braves pitcher Bud Norris as he blanked the Mets through 7 innings. The offense had failed Colon and in the 8th the Braves broke it open on Antonio Bastardo and Logan Verret as the Mets lost the game 5-2 and had to settled for a split in the 4 game series.
It was a week in which the Mets went 4-2 but just like the Yankees it felt like another letdown. The good news for the Mets was that the Nationals had an awful week thanks to the Dodgers and Brewers as the Mets currently find themselves 3 games back as they get ready to take on the Nationals tonight.
But the big new this week had to be the Mets signing and bringing back Jose Reyes. When the news 1st broke out I said to myself no way were the Mets bringing back Reyes considering how much Jose skills had diminished over the last few years but after a few days of not hearing much on the topic you started to here it again and the more I heard the more it began to make sense and it was only a matter of time. On Saturday the Mets made it official and now Jose Reyes is working things out in Brooklyn. Sandy Alderson said it will take Reyes 7 to 10 days working at 3B & 2B, and even some outfield. At $250,000 it's a bargain and the Mets are hoping that Reyes, the one time fan favorite, can some how revive the offense and bring in that Jose Reyes energy. We already know the negativity that Reyes will bring on to the organization but like many throughout the sports world, he is getting a 2nd chance and this is the best case scenario for Jose Reyes to come back and try and prove himself to the many fans who once chanted his name.
On some other Mets news Michael Conforto was sent to the minors as his struggles had continued to escalate. After a great start to his season Conforto fell flat on his face after April and could not find his stroke and the Mets had to make a move.
The same thing happened to Travis d'Arnaud last season and he came back swinging so the Mets are hoping the same is true with Michael Conforto. In his place the Mets have promoted Brandon Nimmo who has been in the organization since 2011 when the Mets drafted him 13th overall being the 1st pick by GM Sandy Alderson. For the mean time Nimmo will fill in but I don't expect much from the 23 year old and expect Conforto to be back after the all star break.
I like to give props to James Loney who this week made some nifty plays at 1st and did very well with the bat. So far Loney has been just what the Mets needed, he has provided some good at-bats and solid defense, and has fit right in like I had expected. I really like what James Loney brings to the table and I am beginning to think that the Mets are better off this year with Loney at 1st base than Lucas Duda.
The schedule gets a lot tougher for both the Mets and Yanks who this week have 7 games on tap. The Mets start off tonight with 3 vs the Nationals in Washington and than come back home for 4 vs the Cubbies. As for the Yankees, they start a 4 game series tonight vs the AL best Texas Rangers at home than go out on the road for 3 vs the Padres. Noah Syndergaard will make the start tonight coming off shoulder discomfort and Ivan Nova gets the start tonight vs the Rangers.
This is going to be one week to keep an eye on so see Ya on the rebound!

Damn...I don't know what happened with the comment I tried leaving yesterday. Oh well, here it goes again. I've been saying it for a while now, the Yankees need to be sellers and I think they're realizing it as well. I'm hoping we can score a nice return on Chapman, Beltran and Miller. Yankees know that their time isn't now, it'll be a couple of years from now so might as well start building up for it.
As for the Mets...I don't really know what to say. 2-5 vs. the Braves of all teams is just not going to cut it. Not when you have visions of a World Series dancing in your head and you have to be worried about Noah's health right now along with Matz. Like I said recently, the Mets better get their act together or this could get away from them fast.
Well not a good start, Mets lost 2 to the Nationals and need a win in the worst way tonight to avoid the sweep and fall 6 games back.
As for the Yankees this is probably the best thing for them to lose and get swept so that they can be more clearer and confront reality.
