This week in NY baseball.

Yea it's that time again, time for my NY baseball weekly report, so let's get things started.

I start off with the NY Yankees who the previous week went 2-5 as I than proceeded to say that it was probably time for the NY Yankees to start thinking about trading away Carlos Beltran and some of that bullpen and commit to the future, well that was a bit premature as this week the Yankees were able to get fat vs the Angels and Tigers so optimism is back in the Bronx.

The Yanks were home for 7 games this pass week and ran off an impressive home stand winning the 1st 5 games but lost the last 2 finishing at 5-2. At the moment they find themselves a game under 500 at 31-32, in 4th place, 5 and a half games out of 1st place. As you can see the Yankees are still within striking distant so giving up and moving on to future plans is certainly not an option you expect from the NY Yankees at this moment.

Carlos Beltran has continue to carry the offense and that is great when you consider that he is the type of player you can trade if things really fall off the rails, the problem is that no one on the Yankees is playing at Beltran's level so how long can he continue to carry the offense?

Ellsbury and Gardner have been doing a decent job of getting on base but the rest of the lineup is thin and under-performing. So far the Yankees pitching has been good and we already know what they have at the end of games with the bullpen but so far it's been their pitching that have kept them within striking distant and that's never been the Yankees motto.

C.C. Sabathia has been able to turn back the clock sporting an ERA of 2.28 to lead the staff but I don't expect that to last but so far so good from the former ace.

Now let's move on to the Mets...

This week the Mets did not get off to a great start nor did not finish well either, 1st it was the Pirates who beat the Mets twice in 1 day when Jonathan Niese and Juan Nicasio out dueled Steven Matz and Jacob deGrom as the Mets offense continued to struggle mustering only 2 runs in the double-header. The Mets were able to avoid the sweep with a come from behind win in 10 inning, than took the next 2 in Milwaukee but lost the final to games as the Mets finished the week 3-4.

The injuries have continue to hurt the Mets and the latest to feel the hurt is 2B Neil Walker who has some back issues and is now day to day. Neil Walker was currently the Mets cleanup hitter with all the others who have landed on the DL so without him in the lineup the Mets had to go with Kelly Johnson as the cleanup hitter on Sunday. As you can see the Mets are also very thin when it comes to their lineup and offense.

Then there is Michael Conforto who's slump is reaching a concerning point, at the moment Conforto is also experiencing some issues with his wrist and on top of that he only has 5 hits in his last 52 at bats, with that being said talks about him going to the minors are beginning to spread so he needs to pick things up.

Lucky for the Mets their pitching is still intact and Matt Harvey is getting better. Still there are some obvious concerns here when it comes to the lineup. The problem here is that the 1st place Nationals continue to win and now have a 5 game lead on the 2nd place Mets.

It still early but the schedule will soon turn too July and that's where we will see where these 2 NY teams will stand going forward. Both the Mets and Yanks had the day off Monday so it is 6 games this week. The Mets are home this week for 3 more with the Pirates, than it's 3 vs the ML worst Atlanta Braves. The Mets are hurting but they need a 4-2 week in front of the home fans. As for the Yankees they are on the road and start off the week in Colorado with 2 vs the Rockies and than it's 4 vs the AL worst Twins. The Yanks need to win at least 3 games this week considering they won't be facing any Verlander's or Michael Fulmer's so no worst than a 500 road trip.

Well that's about it for me for now so catch you on the rebound.

Well, not a good start for the NY teams. The Yankees almost pulled out a crazy comeback and the Mets almost got no hit. Like you said its too early to get too excited or to panic. I like what the Yankees have been doing but with that being said I still say that they should be sellers at the deadline. As for the Mets, I think they need to make a move to bring in a bat. Wright might be having surgery, Conforto is lost out there and Cespedes hasn't been doing much of late. Luckily for both teams they'll be playing teams that they should be able to beat.

No not a good start, 2 in a row for the Yanks, they need to take 3 out 4 vs the Twins. Mets bounce back tonight so for the moment stop the L streak. Who you think picks up Jose Reyes? I here Mets fans on the WFAN wanting him back but I want no part of him and I think Mets brass want no part of him as well.

The Yankees continue their inconsistent ways. Right now if I'm them I'm scouting the Nationals, Cubs, Rangers and Giants for top prospects for Miller, Chapman, Beltran and whoever else they can unload. The way I see it, the Yankees have to punt away 2016 and 2017. Yeah it sucks but that will let them come back strong for 2018 and beyond with all the young players they're cultivating right now and 1 or 2 big time free agents.
Heard about Reyes being released, its crazy that him and Rollins got released on the same week. Not too long ago those were 2 of the top shortstops in the league. No way the Mets bring him back, why would they? I can see a team taking a flyer on him but it's going to be tough because of the baggage that he brings.

I agree, the Yankees need to be up front and understand that this is not a winning team and that they need to wave the flag and take their lumps. When I look at the Yankees overall team, I rather be any other team in the ML except for the A's and the Padres, than have the crop of players the Yankees have, at least every other team has players on their current roster who you can move on and try to build with. Unload Miller, Chapman, Beltran and get some pieces and hopefully you will wind up with those kind of players.

I know the Mets won't bring back Reyes, they already put out a statement, it's just stupid fans on WFAN wanting him back like he is going to turn back the clock, he's washed up, but like you said someone will pick him up.

The Yankees are a middle of the road team, they can maybe sneak into the playoffs but even if they do they wouldn't do much. I rather that they lose over the next month so that they can make the necessary trades.
As for the Mets, they better get their shit together or this can get away from them quickly.

I'm not too worried about the Mets, I understand that they are missing some key players and that right now they are doing the best with what they have. Like I said, as long as the starting pitching stays intact they will compete, Walker, d'Arnaud and Conforto should be back soon, Duda and Wheeler I hope will be ready after the all star break, then if things don't get better make a trade during the trading deadline. There are still 98 games to play and the Mets still have 13 games with the Nationals.
