Yanks make it official, send Chapman to the Cubs.

The Yankees have traded Aroldis Chapman to the Cubs, all this after having a successful home stand following the all star break in which they competed vs some solid teams like the Red Sox, Orioles and Giants. One would had though that with their recent success the Yankees were going to hold off moving forward but the Yankees did not let false hope steer them the wrong way and a decision was made to move on and get younger.

It's just fun to watch the Yankees and their fans try to decipher what all this really means cause they are not use to this sort of operation as an organization but here we are today and it is official.

Today the Yankees get Adam Warren back and 19 year old prospect Gleyber Torres as the 2 key acquisitions in the trade along with Billy Mckinney and a 4th player to be named later for Chapman.

This starts the ball rolling so if you're a Yankee fans you have to be happy that the ball is actually rolling and no more BS is being served.

Only time will tell how far the Yankees will go at this but this is a start and trading another arm and stocking up on some more prospects should be the right direction for them to take.

Relievers are on high demand around this time of the year and every team in contention can use an arm in the bullpen like the Yankees have, if the Yankees really want to go forward and build towards the future they can really do themselves some good if they dismantle the 3 headed monsters completely.

Like I said only time will tell so for the next couple of weeks it will be interesting to see where all this leads the Yankees and their negotiations process as they unload and sell for the 1st time in 20 years.

On the other side of town the Mets are coming back home today after a road trip in which they went 5-4 while taking on the Phillie's, Cubs and Marlins. They are currently 52-45, in 3rd place, 5 games out of 1st, and a half game out of the WC.

The Mets are in contention which means that they will be buyers and will be making moves that will ad depth to the roster.

So far the rumors are that the Mets are interested in Jonathan Lucroy in a trade that would include Travis d'Arnaud. Getting a Jonathan Lucroy would be a perfect fit and if the Mets can get that done I'm 100% for it. At the moment those are the rumors but Travis d'Arnaud alone won't get it done so look for the Mets to throw in some additional pieces to help make this happen but for now I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

But what else can the Mets do to strengthen up? Well again bullpen arms are always a good addition and the Mets like any other team who are in contention will look for those power arms to ad in the bullpen so another arm behind Jeurys Familia, Addison Reed and Hansel Robles would be a nice addition.

Another possible ad on to the team could be a starting pitching position. At the moment I'm ok with Noah Syndergaard, Steven Matz, Jacob deGrom, Bartolo Colon and Logan Verrett but getting another starter won't hurt in case someone does goes down so I look for another 4 or 5 type to possibly be added.

Where the Mets do have a problem at the moment is in CF where yesterday they busted out Michael Conforto in CF, I don't see how this is a good idea but for now the Mets are flirting with this but going forward I think the Mets need to find a better solution.

As far as adding a bat to the everyday lineup I don't see much happening in that department, so far the additions of James Loney and Jose Reyes have been good moves at 1B and 3B. With Jose Reyes at the top leading things off again the Mets lineup looks good and so far the early results have been positive.

I think that Jose Reyes is happy to be back with the team that he had to leave back in 2011 cause trhe Mets were ready to move on and not pay him and now that he's back Reyes seems grateful to be given another chance. Jose Reyes has brought back that energy and speed to the Mets lineup and so far it's all good.

Tonight the Yankees get ready to go out on the road without the services of Aroldis Chapman as they take on the Houston Astros while the Mets get set to open up the home vs the St. Louis Cardinals.

Well, the Yankees made the move that they had to make. I like the move because they get a top end prospect and the outfielder is suppose to be good as well, he was with the A's and they traded him in the Samardjza trade a couple of years ago. Plus they can go back and sign Chapman in the offseason if they wanted to. Right now the Yankees are rolling along, took 3/4 from the O's, 2/3 from the giants and now have taken the first 2 in Houston so they're making the decision to sell off more players difficult. If I were Cashman I would take this opportunity to sell high but don't know if they're going down that road. As for the Mets, I'll be curious to see what they do before the deadline and if they add another bat or arm.

The Yankees with this winning is bad timing for Cashman moving forward. I think they will keep Miller but I can see them trading a guy like Beltran, I here Nova is on the block but they won't get much for him unless they get lucky.

I think the Mets will ad an arm, nothing major but i can see them adding a reliever and a possible low end starter but I don't know about adding another bat, would love it if they can ad a guy like Lucroy in the mix but other than that I don't see where else in the order they can upgrade.

On another note, if you had told me in April that at the end of July the Mets would be in 3rd place in the NL East and on the outside looking in to the playoffs I would have said you're crazy yet here we are. For all the doom and gloom you like to talk about the Yankees, your Mets who had World Series aspirations in 2016 are only 1.5 games better than the Yankees thus far. You just can't predict sports.

Yea the last 2 loses have put a damper on the Mets, but am I surprised that the Mets are in 3rd place?I'm just glad that they are still in it considering all they set backs, this is baseball and anything can happened in baseball and don't sleep on the Marlins, they are a very good team, they have a good lineup, better than the Mets, and they have a ace that can carry them, I would not be surprised if they sneak in and win it all. With that being said, the Mets are still very much in it but the injuries continue to keep the Mets back.

I will continue to say that as long as the Mets have the starting pitching they will have a chance, but teams like the Marlins have a chance too cause they have some real players. I'm hoping that the Mets have enough to get in but right now the way the Mets are currently constructed they have some issues that I hope they can fix.

Another day, another loss for the Mets, this team does have issues so let's see if Alderson can pull another rabbit out of the hat like he did last year.

Yes the Mets are not hitting and so they continue to struggle but who do you expect Alderson to get? Like Collins said yesterday the team needs to relax and start hitting. Hopefully the Mets can turn it around before it's too late.

Well, the for sale sign is up in the Bronx. I hate to see Miller go but its the right move. Yankees getting younger and restocking the system and collecting assets to make moves if they need to. Now on to moving Beltran, Nova, McCann and whoever else they can.
Looks like the Mets struck out on Lucroy, that guy would have been a great fit for the Mets.

Might have spoken too soon about Lucroy. He just vetoed the trade to the Indians so Mets still in it.

Man just woke up to see that Miller had been traded to the indians, a bit of a surprise that they actually went on to do it but like you said the Yankees are doing the right thing. Now you will see the rest of the aging players go as the Yankees have turned the page.

As for the Mets... they are so injured as a team at this point that I don't think there is a move out there that can save them, but I agree getting Lucroy would be a nice player to get even if it won't help them much this season.

Tomorrow we will see a bunch of more moves.

Yeah, trading Miller hurts but its the way to go. That guy is the consummate professional, I really hope he gets to pitch next week at at the Stadium, the fans will give him a really nice ovation. I don't know who else they'll unload, it'll be nice if they can get Beltran to a contender and if they can move a couple of more guys I would do it.

Big win for the Mets today, I'm sure you'll cover that in your weekly wrap up/trade deadline update.
