Opening day a success in Met land.

Opening day was a success for the Mets as Johan Santana showed the fan why he is the premier lefty in the game today. Santana gave the Mets 7 innings of work, struck out 7, walked 4 in a 99 pitch performance vs the Cincinnati Reds, a game that had what Mets fans hope to be the blueprint to the 2009 season. The runs were provided by a solo blast off the bat of Daniel Murphy who then drove in the 2nd run on a fielders choice which prove to be the winning run. Sean Green, JJ Putz and K-ROD came in and did the job for the 2 to 1 victory. This is exactly what the Mets are looking for from Putz and K-ROD who immediately showed their worth on opening day.
Last season guys like Aaron Heilman or Scott Showenweiss would had found a way to make things blow up in the Mets fans faces, but this year things look to be different with the newly revampt bullpen. It is only the 1st game of the season but getting off to the right track is very important for the long and suffering Mets fans who are craving a winner. The Mets will look to continue play on Wednesday vs the Reds in a duel that will feature Big Mike Pelphey vs. Edison Volquez for the Reds.
