Yankees get back on track with a 4-2 week

One month into the baseball season and the New York Yankees find themselves in 3rd place with a 13-11 record. Some Yankees fans would argue that this is not worthy for a team that spent $420 million in the offseason to upgrade it. But looking at where the Yankees stand at the moment, and still very early in the season, 3rd place and a record of 13-11 in not that bad when you take into consideration that the Yankees have not gotten much from CC Sabathia & Mark Texiera so far, plus they are still waiting for Alex Rodriguez to make his 2009 debut, things should get alot better, just be patience fans.
This week went well for the Yankees as they posted another winning week of baseball that started off with a series vs the Detriot Tigers, as the Yankees got back on track after getting swept by the Boston Red Sox the previous week.
In the opener the Tiger took care of the Yankees and CC Sabathia with a 4-2 win, as Sabathia would go 8 innings for the lost as the Yankees could not come up with any runs support as they fell for the 4th straight game. In game 2 the Yankees had Phil Hughes making his 1st outing of the season as he would give the Yankees 6 scoreless innings filling in for the enigmatic Chien Ming Wang who is also going through some tough times of his own. The Yankees bats came out swinging in this one as the major blow was dealt by Jose Molina who homered with the bases loaded, as the Yankees blew away the Tigers 11-0, snapping their losing streak at 4. Following Hughes on the mound was Joba Chamberlian who turned in a good performance in game 3 of the series, as he was able to show his worth as a starter, this after hearing his name being mention once again as a bullpen option. Chamberlian would put those talks to sleep with a stellar outing as the Yankees took the rubber game with a 8-6 win. Joba went 7 strong inning giving up 1 run on 3 hits, as the bullpen nearly let it get away in the 9th when the Tigers came up with 5 runs to fall short. The offense was provided by Nick Swisher who went deep twice for his 6th and 7th home runs of the season. It was now back home for the Yankees as they got ready to face their nemesis the Anaheim Angels who came into town for a 4 game series.

In the opener, the Yankees sent out AJ Burnett who lasted 7, but had a no decision. Melky Cabrera delivered the game winner in the 8th, followed by a Ramiro Pena 2 run single that gave the Yanks some insurance and a 7 to 4 victory, as Phil Coke got the win in relief. Game 2 on Friday was a wild one as the Yankees had to come back after scoring 4 1st inning runs off of Jared Weaver. Andy Pettite was cruising until he reached the 6th when he gave up 5 runs and the lead as the Angels took a 6-4 lead. For Pettite and the Yankees it will only get worst as in the very next inning the Angels would tack on 3 more runs off of Jose Veras to take a commanding 9-4 lead as the Angels looked in control. But the Yankees would not go away without a fight as they came up with 4 in the 8th, and 2 more in the 9th, capped by the winning blow off the bat of Jorge Posada, a walk off 2 run single that sent the Yankees fans home in a frenzy, the Yanks took the 1st two from the Angels. In game 3, it was the Angels turn to get in the win column as they took care of CC Sabathia who fell to 1-3, as the Angels won the game 8-4. It was the last game of the series as the 4th and final game would get rained out, as the Yankees finished off the week at 4-2, with an overall 13-11 record in 3rd place, 3 and half games back.
Soon the Yanks will get the return of Alex Rodriguez who will bring in more drama to the Stadium with all the news about the new book that Selina Roberts now has in stores starting today. Here we go again, more A-ROD drama.

Up next for the Yankees will be a 2 game meeting with the RedSox, followed by 2 with the the Ray's, and 3 with the Orioles.
