YANKS fall under 500 with 2-7 week
Things were not as good for the New York Yankees this past week as their inconsistent play continued with some more horrid baseball at the new Yankees stadium. Right now it has gotten to the point were the new Yankee Stadium is no longer a place where the opponent fear coming to. It has become a place where the Bronx Bombers are the ones getting bombed. During this week we saw the Boston Red Sox take a 2 game series as they beat the Yanks for the 5th straight time without a lost. Both Joba Chamberlain and Phil Hughes took the loses in this series as the boos birds were loud and clear at the stadium.
Then it was the Ray's turn too beat up on the Yankees when in extra innings Carlos Pena struck in the 10th with a the winning blow that gave the Yanks their 4th lost in a row. Mark Texiera who had tied the game in the 8th to send it into the extra frames with a bases loaded clearing double, had a chance to put the Yanks ahead or tie it in the bottom of the 10th when he came up with runners on 1st and 3rd with 1 out. But Texiera could not come through as the Slumpdog millionaire would fail again as his horrid start to his season would only continue. It would only get worst the next day when the Yankees who were down 4-0 vs the Rays earlier in the game, would come back to tie it at 6 all in the 8th, but Mariano Rivera could not hold his end, giving up back to back bombs for the 1st time in his career as the Yankees fell once again 8-6, for their 5th straight lost.
It was off to Baltimore as the Yankees who were probably happy to get out of town had Alex Rodriguez back in the lineup making his season debut. With one swing of the bat A-ROD would give the Yanks some early relief with a 1st inning 3 run blast that gave CC Sabathia and the Yanks all they needed on this night as the Yanks snapped the streak at 5 as Sabathia would go the distance for a 4-0 shoutout. The Yanks would split the next 2 in the series as they finished off the week with their worst week of the season at 2-7.
If there was anything positive for the Yanks it was Johnny Damon who came up big several times with some clutch hits to help the Yanks win the only 2 games they were able to win.
The Yankees now get ready to head out to Toronto to face the 1st place Blue Jays as former Jay, AJ Burnett will face Roy Halladay and his 6-1 record. This series should be a big test for both the Yanks and the Jays as they face each other for the 1st time this season. The Yankees then come back to NY as they host the Twins for a 4 game series.
