Back on top, Mets get one for Santana.
The brooms were out last night as the New York Mets swept the hapless Washington Nationals to reclaim back 1st place. On the mound was the ace Johan Santana who struck out 11 Nationals, but on this night Santana was less then perfect walking 6 batters and at one time even walking the opposing pitcher to load the bases. Santana gave the Mets 6 inning and left the game tied, but in the bottom of the 6th the Mets would go on to take the lead on a controversial homerun off the bat of Daniel Murphy who had his biggest offensive day of his career. After some uncertainty when the ball which looked way out of the park but fell back into play near the warning track, right fielder Adam Dunn then picked up the ball and started a relay which had cut down Gary Sheffeild at the plate who was not running hard thinking it was a homerun. The instant replay was then put to use for the 2nd straight night when Jerry Manuel then came out to dispute whether infact this was a homerun. After several views which were all inconclusive, the umps came back out on to the field and made the circle motion that gave the slumping Murphy the home run and the Mets the lead for good. So far this season the Mets have been a perfect 5 for 5 when using the instant reply, the most by any team in the majors, if your a Met fan your loving it. The Mets played without Carlos Beltran once again who took another day off with his sore right knee and should be back on Friday for the series vs. the Florida Marlins.
