Injury parade continues but Mets win.
The Mets held off the Florida Marlins on Sunday to take the rubber game of the series 3-2, in a game where yet another Met joined the list of the wounded.
This time it was Angel Pagan's turn when he pulled a groin in the 6th chasing after a Hanley Ramirez gapper. Met starter John Maine pitched 6 scoreless innings before taking himself out of the game in the 7th when a stomach virus that had sidelined Carlos Beltran in the last 2 games, had taken Maine out too. The runs were provided by 3 RBI double's, one by Angel Pagan in the 3rd, and 2 more in the 7th by Fernando Martinez, and another by Omir Santos when the Mets took a 3-0 lead. The Marlins would get within 1 run in the 8th when they got RBI's from Emilio Bonifacio and Hanley Ramirez off of JJ Putz who had to be rescued by Bobby Parnell who came in to put out the fire getting 2 big outs with the tying run at 3rd. 1st he would fan Jorge Cantu for the 2nd out, and Jeremy Hermida for the 3rd out. Francisco Rodriguez would follow in the 9th as he struck out the side for his 14th save in 14 chances.
NOTE:
Met reliever Pedro Feliciano pitched a perfect seventh and has not allowed an earned run in his LAST 13 appearances spanning 10 innings as the bullpen continues to be a solid component for the Mets this season. While Feliciano has been terrific, JJ Putz has not, of late Putz has been struggling in his last few outings, for the season he has a record 1-3 with a ERA of 3.81 as the supposedly fireballer has only struck out 19 batters in 28 innings of work while walking 18.
The Mets now go on the road for 7 straight games as they start off a 4 game series tonight against the lowly Pittsburgh Pirates. It is then off to Washington to face the worst team in baseball, the Nationals.
