Mets let one get away, Utley delivers in the 11th.

Chase Utley 2nd homer of the game, his 3rd in this series, proved to be the blow that sent the Mets home with a disappointing lost in a game where the Mets once led 4-1. Utley was the hero on this night but it was the defensive play by the Phillie's right fielder Jason Werth who save the day for the Phils that proved to be the key play of the game. With the speedy Fernando Martinez at 1st and two outs in the 10th, David Wright came up and drilled a sinking liner towards Werth that looked destine for extra bases and a possible game winner, Werth took a gamble as he went all out to snared the liner to end the inning setting up Utley's homer in the 11th to win the game, the gamble paid off. The final blow came off of reliever Bobby Parnell who gave up his 1st home run of the season at the wrong time.

Utley was the man tonight and at one point he and Met starting pitcher Mike Pelphey had a stare down prompting Pelphey to lost it momentarily. In came Jerry Manuel to calm his pitcher down as he sense that Big Mike was beginning to lose himself at Utley's expense who had already taken Pelphey deep to tie the game at 1.

This is a very heated rivalry that has grown to the point where nice guys like Utley and Pelphey were hating on each other last night. Cole Hamels who's words of encouragement during the off season helped spew more gasoline into the fire by calling the Mets chokers herd the boos loud and clear last night. In 5 innings of work Hamels gave up 11 hits struck out only 1 batter while giving up 4 runs as he left the game down 4-1. Pelphey would pitch into the 7th but could not get a single batter out as he gave up 3 straight hits too Howard, Ibanez and Werth. In came Sean Green who was not helped out when David Wright could not handle a ground ball that turned into an error as the Phils would go on to tie the game at 4 until Utley's blast in the 11th.
Tonight is the rubber game of the series as Tim Redding faces 46 year old Jamie Moyer.
