Yanks rip Santana to take Subway series in a romp

From the beginning until the end, it was all Yankees all day, on Sunday the New York Yankees came out with their bats blazing off of the pitches delivered by Johan Santana, who for the 5th straight start did not have it. It was the rubber game of the Subway Series, as the Mets, if not for Luis Castillo's one handed allstar stab on Friday, could had easily been in position today to be sweeping the Yankee, instead the Mets found themselves with a chance to still make something positive of the series if Santana could deliver the goods. After the bounce back game on Saturday to even up the series, today's game was suppose to be Johan Santana showing the Yankees why he is the best pitcher in the planet. But what the Mets got from Santana on this day was his worst ever outing, giving up a career high 9 runs on 9 hits in just 4 innings of work, it was not what Met fans wanted to see vs the hated crosstown rivals, not with Santana on the mound. A key moment in the game was in the 2nd inning, when up came Francisco Cervelli for the Yankees with 2 outs and runners on 2nd & 3rd, Santana had just struck out Melky Cabrerra making it 2 outs in a early jam, with Cervelli at the plate, I was thinking that if Cervelli gets a hit, Santana probably does not have it today, sure enough, Cervelli would cue one off the end of the bat between Castillo and Church to drive in the 1st run of the game. After that is was all she wrote for the Mets as Santana went on to give up consecutive hits to Jeter & Damon and was only able to get out of the inning without further damage because Damon got greedt and was thrown out at 2nd trying to stretch his hit into a double, still 4 runs came in as the Yanks led early 4-0 in just 2 innings against Santana.

In the very next inning the Mets were in position to make a move on Yankees starter AJ Burnett who would walked 2 and give up a hit to load the bases with no one out, it would be the turning point of the game as it looked like Burnett was just about ready to give it all back, with Alex Cora at the plate and a 2-2 count, Cora was called out on a check swing by the 3rd base umpire who looked like a Yankee fan from the call he had just made, Jerry Manuel showed his displeasure in the Met dugout, and Cora was all frowns at the plate, as he just turned back, shaking his head. It was key call and the big break Burnett would need, as he would escape the inning by striking out Fernando Martinez for the 2nd out, then got Carlos Beltran to line out to Jeter to end the inning, right there, game over. After that the Yankees just continued to piled on runs after runs, the key blow came off the bat of Hideki Matsui who took Santana deep in the 4th to make it 6-0, it would be Matsui's 2nd homer in the series, that turned this game into an old fashion shellacking that ended with the final score of 15-0. It would go down as the most lopsided Subway Series game ever.
Jerry Manuel got ejected late in the game when the home plate umpire called David Wright out on another questionable call that Wright didn't appreciate, Wright then got all into the face of the home plate umpire as Manuel came out to argue, and wasn't saying any nice things.
After the game the concern was all about Johan Santana, and his latest pitching performance, could it be that Santana may be having some sort of arm problems? his velocity was down as he was only able to reach the radar gun at 91mph instead of his usual 94 to 95 plus speeds. Santana also said that he felt fine and made no excuses, simply saying he just didn't have it and that the Yankees just made good contact and put the ball in play, he also said that he could also used an extra day off when a reporter brought it up to him after the game. If your a Met fan and you seen Santana's last few outings, then to see how the Yankees took care of him on Sunday, a thought of concern had to come up after this dreadful performance.

The Highlight of the game had to be the meeting between Francisco Rodriguez and Brain Bruney who met up before the game during batting practice, all this coming about when Bruney who's comments on Friday after the game, when a reporter asked Bruney what he thought about the ending of the game that gave K-ROD his 1st blown save of the season due to Castillo drop ball, when asked, Bruney replied by saying that it could not had happen to a better guy, I'm not a big fan of his antics, then sticking to his comment on Saturday when asked again, well on Sunday Bruney met up with K-ROD or was it K-ROD who met up with Bruney? Whatever it was it turned out to be a one sided discussion where you saw K-ROD giving it to Bruney, at one time even poking his fingers into Bruney's chest as Bruney just kind of stood there taking it all in, several teammates from both sides came in to break up the altercation, Mike Pelphey and Damaso Marte were the 2 closet's to the fracas as they had to separate K-ROD who looked ready to level Bruney, when Pelphey was asked what had happened after the game, he said it was just K-ROD really mad at Bruney and Bruney just kind of there taking it, I told Frankie let's go, this is not good, as clearly K-ROD wanted a piece of Bruney.

What Bruney needs to understand is that K-ROD has been doing what he's been doing since he burst into the scene as a 19 year rookie for the Anaheim Angels, who has a WS ring under his belt, and who last season broke the all time single season saves record, while Bruney, who is the same age as K-ROD, is simply a guy, who for the most part, has no real credibility to his name. For a guy like Bruney to say what he said, was simply not a good thing, especially when the only reason K-ROD even blew the save, and the game was simple because of Castillo's gasp, that's just simply player hating. After the game Bruney replied back like a little bitch saying things like I am nobody, K-ROD is an incredible pitcher, he has a WS ring and I don't, which is probably what K-ROD was telling him in their confrontation before the game. I know some people don't like K-ROD's antics on the mound when ever he saves a game and goes into his routine, but that's part of what makes him who he is, it is his makeup, his ritual. I had no problem when K-ROD was doing his thing with the Angels, to me it's his style, and now that he is doing his thing on my team, I love it.
It seems to me, that it is always these conservative types who have a problem when a guy like K-ROD does what he does, that thing that gives him that edge, call it repetition, some people just want others to be like robots, to be like everyone else. I'm sure that if K-ROD was on the Yankees saving games, that Mr. Bruney would be right there, high 5'ing K-ROD whenever he saves one for his team. You didn't see Bruney have any problems when Joba Chamberlian was doing his thing, and that's why it was not a good idea for a guy like Bruney to say what he said in the 1s place. Both teams will go at it again in 2 weeks, as Bruney who was injured for this series, should be available for the next meeting at CitiField, can't wait for his CitiField reception.

The Mets will now head out to Baltimore for a 3 game set vs the Orioles starting on Tuesday, they then come back home to face the Tampa Bay Rays for 3 more to finish off the week. The Yankees will opened up a series vs the worst team in baseball for 3 games against the Washington Nationals at Yankee Stadium, look for the balls to be flying out, and for Manny Acta's head to be cut loose. It's then out to Florida for 3 games vs the Marlins.

It's funny how all this Bruney and K-ROD talk has surface, last night I was on my PS3, playing this exact same Subway Series, it was the 2nd game of the series after I have just beaten the Yankees in the 1st game of the series, 4-2 in 13 inning as K-ROD saved it and then went on doing his little dance, well in this game, in came Mariano Rivera for the save, with the Yanks up 6-3, he faces 4 batters and saves the game, as he then proceeded to go on his own version of K-ROD's showboating style, I was caught off guard, cause in real life you don't Mo doing all this, but then again this a game. In the rubber game, I was dying to beat the Yankees to see if I can save it K-ROD to see if he was going to go more over the top, or if Mariano would come in and do it again, instead it was Mariano who would out again with another 6-3 lead, once again dispatching me for the save, but this time Mariano was the more subdued Mariano, but I guess in that 2nd game when he was all animated, I was thinking that maybe Mariano was still pissed about last season when he didn't want to get to close to K-ROD and made sure he was as far away as possible, remember in the AllStar game last season?
Funny Shit.
