The circus that was last week all started after hearing about Bernazard's and his shirtless tirade with some minor leaguers, and the altercation on that same week at Citifield with a scout who was sitting in Bernazard's seat. All this in one week for Bernazard as the Media layed out the blueprint for Omar on what to do with the hotheaded Tony. The writing was now on the wall, Bernazard needed to be let go cause he was causing way to much negativity on the organization that was already playing negative on the field, and this was nothing new for Bernazard who since last season has had it going with the press, they have been covering him as if they were the FBI on his case. Omar who apparently had a hard time with the decision at hand could not put into words or could not let whatever beef he had with the media, in this case Adam Rubin, go.
The accumulations of altercations and the bad press had now reach a boiling point for Mr. Bernazard who's time with the Mets was now up. So Omar said what we all expected and then for some reason started the accusation game with Rubin. Omar opened up a can of worms and then tried to back peddled his way out once he had realize the bone headed move he had put himself into.
Once the words were out Rubin who was in the room doing his job as usual, then had no choice but to call Omar out and try and settle the score, are you insinuating that I fabricated my reports so that I can move in and take Tony's spot? Rubin said along these lines, no I'm not said Omar, I mean I do stand with what I have said but, what I mean is....Omar who has never been one to clearly articulate his words with precision went on and on stumbling incoherently making the situation worse and worse. By now you can see Omar face redden after realizing the no win situation.
The damage had been done and there was no easy way out of it.
The Next day Fred Wilpon came out on behalf of Omar and the organization to apologize to Rubin, He said that the Mets organization is sorry for what had happened to Mr. Rubin, he also said that Omar is sorry for how everything went down, that lately the pressure had gotten to him because of all the negative press the team had been receiving from the media in which he felt at times were not fair to the team. I guess he tried to look out for the team and in doing so went about it like a GM with a GED.
Two days later Omar himself said sorry to Adam Rubin one on one and that was that, supposedly apology accepted. It was a mistake that now makes the man that is Omar Minaya look clownish, as he has now stepped into Isiah Thomas territory.
It will be part of his highlight reel when and where his time is up as the Met GM.
I have always liked and have backed up Omar Minaya, for the most part the moves that he has made outnumbered the bad ones by far, but this season it has not gone the way he had vision it, and so because of this he has received most of the blame for the Mets demise this season, he is the one who put together this team, his team his vision.
He may have not liked the way the Media had been blasting the Mets with the way things have gone down this season, he was probaly also mad at the media for failing to make sense on why this was all happening to his team this season, the real reason why it has all gone wrong for the Amazings. But then he also failed to understand that the media is going to do what they have to to sell papers, that sometimes especially in NYC, you have to simply let it go.
This incident only reinforces those who want him out, and so the countdown is now on for Omar. No doubt he will start the 2010 season as the Mets GM even with all that has happened. This season he will get a pass because of the injuries, no way can you fire the man who is under contract till 2012, no way with all the money that the Mets have lost this year with the Madoff stuff, but if next year the Mets find themselves underachieving once again somewhere in July, you can bet that Omar's days as the GM are near.

Hate to see this happen to Omar because from what I've always seen and heard from the guy he seems like a good guy but what he did last week was unacceptable, I'm sure he'll be fired at the end of the season.
Oh, one other thing. You think the Mets would have invested in some public speaking classes for Omar. The guy is a terrible speaker, guess can't expect much more from the Mets.
I don't see how you can fire him at the end of the season, geez, I mean if you want to fire him because of this stupid move he pulled last week ok, but not on what happened during the season with all the injuries, I mean he didn't have a chance to see what could had happened, so why fire him?
Plus he is signed till 2012, you think the Wilpon's are going to fire him with 3 years left and with all the money they lost with the whole Madoff's fiasco?
I don't think so.
He will get to start the season next season and if the Met are not where they suppose to be by let's say July, then you can see him get the ax, it all depends on how bad the Mets are come next season.
Oh I was going to say in my post that what the Mets should had done was take a page from the Yankees and have a PR guy do all the talking from now on, Omar talks like he is any regular Dominican guy who just learned the language,
nice soft tone but with to many you knows.
