Newly elected Hall of Famer Jim Rice was telling some little leaguers about how it use to be back in his day and how today’s players are spoiled and set a bad example for them. The advice sounded pretty reasonable mentioning that today’s players for them it's all about money and that in his day it was not accepted to take days off or dress how ever you wanted too, that in his day the game was more respected and in other words you had to play by stricter rules.. He was making good points until he started to mention players names who he thought today set the bad example he was talking about, he took a shot at Manny then A-ROD and all that was ok, but when Derek Jeter’s name came up into the conversation it was when Mr. Rice began to sound like the old bitter Rice that had left him out of the Hall of Fame for the past 15 years. I could just imagine the faces on those kids when Rice brought up Jeter’s name, they musta been crying right then and there, no not Jeter! You could not come up with a more stand up guy in baseball then Derek Jeter as far as role models goes, a 1st ballot Hall of Famer who’s has been nothing but a joy to watch throughout his 15 years in the majors and now here is Rice discrediting the one true face of MLB. Sure there are plenty of players today that you want to punch in the face for the way they play the game or act on or off the field, but Jeter?

Man if Jeter is no good for baseball then baseball has nothing good left in the game. I think Jim Rice low blow should get him a fine for saying such stupidity, but it wont but at least it wont win him anymore friends in the baseball circles anymore. Jim Rice you need to check yourself before you wreck yourself, but I guess that is too late for you now.

Thanks for posting about this, I couldn't believe it when I first heard it last night. Sure enough Rice is saying that he was misquoted but I think he didn't realize the backlash that his comments would produce. He really comes across as bitter.
Someone posted on this in the Daily News comment section:
Captain Derek Jeter is like the love-child of Ricky Henderson and Jim Rice. He is either alienating his teamates with his sulking 'me first, team second' attitude or showboating on the field (if, like Henderson, it happened to be a day where he felt like hustling on the field) Case in point: The day Jeter woke up and said "Tonight I'm going to run full-sprint and hurl myself into the stands to catch an obviously unplayable ball for any other shortstop" And then after pulling himself out of the stands he smirked, wiped the ball up and down his crotch and threw the ball into the Red Sox dugout and proceeded to perform a 'Macarena' victory dance on home plate whilst simutaneously throwing hundred dollar bills at all his teamates and screaming "I'm the man! It's all about ME!!!" . Yeah OK Rice, that's the Jeter YOU see. The truth is YOU are the classless bum making falsehoods and Jeter is too classy and intelligent to give any life to your bitter, baseless and biased blasphemy
Misquoted? he has some nerves, instead of coming out today and saying sorry for putting Jeter name with the rest of the guys he mentioned this is what he comes back with?
I guess all the writers who said all the things they said about Rice for once were right on point, this is a bitter and jelous man wishing he had played in today's baseball so that he could make all the millions a guy like Jeter makes and deserves.
I'd like to punch Jim Arroz in the face for making such a ridiculous statement. Not just about Jeter but about Manny and Arod. So Manny has braids and dreadlocks and wears baggy clothing. That makes him a bad person? WTF? Freedy, who's going to fine him. He's not in official baseball circles to be fined.
Another thing is, and you all may disagee. This guy DOES NOT belong in the Hall. I'm sorry. His numbers do not warranthim being there. They are not numbers to be in awe about. There is a reason it took him like twenty years to get in - it's because he shouldn't have been elected in the first place. If you put someone as just above mediocre as Rice then where does that leave someone like Bernie Williams who has VERY comparable numbers and one of the best post season players of all time with 4 rings to boot?
Jim Rice is simply an asshole!
Here's a good one for you and this is a quote:
When asked by a reporter what his FAVORITE memory from playing baseball was, Jim Rice responded:
"Collecting my first paycheck."
That's the class I want to remember.
I love their weren't serious cocaine issues when he played. Those things didn't exist and all the players were angels.
well to be honest I don't know who this Jim Arroz guy is I thought it was Rice who brought up Manny and A-ROD, and they were put in there for the bad example they have set, for Manny it is not only because of the bad dress code, he is clealy all about me me me, as far A-ROD being put into the conversation, and I think this is Rice grip, I guess it is because of all the ridiculous amount of money he makes and for never really doing anything in the playoffs, I mean it is ok to make 15 to 20 million dollars but once your making well over 30 million you better have done something in the playoffs, and of course in Jim Rice's era this kind of money making was not happening.
I think you have to be Joe Dimaggio and do the things he did in the playoffs to be worth that kind of money, but of course these are the times.
I think Rice should be in the HOF, his number at the time of his retirement before the inflated steriod era were in my mind good to be in there, I remember as a kid looking at his baseball card and his numbers surely jumped up at me, of course not a 1st ballot HOF, but a guy who would get in there by his 10th year of elibility.
Bernie Williams was a good player just like Rice and may as well be in the HOF if he waits some 7 to 10 years but he also may not because of all the other players and their inflated steriod numbers, just my opinion.
and of course Rice is an asshole.
Oh Freddy, you really don't know who Jim Arroz is? You call yourself Dominican? Ask Ray.
Nope I don't know who Jim Arroz is, but I guess he is some Dominican reporter.
Still was it Arroz or Rice who brought up Jeter Manny and A-ROD?
Last time I checked Arroz is Rice in Spanish. Its like I always call Pedro Feliz - Pedro Happy.
LOL I was wondering who this JIM ARROZ guy was but Danny put me on and I kept on falling for it.
Geez
Ah man, this was too funny. I wasn't trying to put you on, I just thought you knew that rice was arroz. It makes it even funnier that you are of hispanic descent. You just gave me a scary look at what could possibly be my daughter's future if I don't get my act together teaching her Spanish.
LOL, I know arroz is rice in spanish but for some reason that just flew right by me, I guess to many bong hits has altered my quick thinking lol.
I seriously thought it was this spanish guy who does reporting on ESPN.
