Yankees fans can come out & show face today after last night game 2 victory over the Phillies. A day after getting dominated by Cliff Lee's pitches the Yankee fans got rewarded with a dominating performance from A.J. Burnett who was dealing when the Yankees needed it most.In 7 innings Burnett held the Phillies offense to one run & that one run was questionable. Burnett had the exploding fastball and for the lefties Phillie's hitters he used a deadly curveball that froze & painted the outside part of the strike zone, leaving them with no answer. Burnett on this night threw strikes and never fell behind striking out 9, & his personal catcher Jose Molina did his part catching every nasty pitch thrown to him & he even caught Jason Werth napping at 1st to kill what seemed to be a Phillies early threat. On the other side Pedro Martinez was able to give the Phils pretty much what Sabathia had given the Yankees the night before, But just like Sabathia it was 2 mistakes by Pedro, 1st it was Mark Texiera & then it was Hideki Matsui who took a nasty pitch from Pedro over the wall which proved to be the decider.
Pedro would come out for the 7th but when the 1st 2 hitters got on Charlie Manuel came to take him out & Yankee fans had their day with the old villain. Who's your Daddy rang loud & clear several times during the game, but for the most part Pedro battled and did more then I had expected from him against a team like the Yankees.
Chan Ho Park came in to relieve Pedro & quickly gave up a hit to the pinch hitter Jorge Posada who drove in the 3rd run to give the Yankees a 3-1 lead. Just when it looked like the Yankees were ready for the big inning up came Derek Jeter & with 2 strikes, bunted foul on a questionable decision for the 1st out of the inning, In came lefty Scott Erye & what happened next was another umpires muffing up a call, from the naked eye it was hard to tell but it was clear that Johnny Damon hard hit ball to Ryan Howard was caught on a hop, it looked like the Yankee had loaded the bases for Mark Texiera but the call by the 1st base umpire kept the Phillies in the game. Joe Girardi then came in with Mariano Rivera to try and close the door in the 8th for another 6 out save, and with a 2 run lead the Yankees looked set up. Rivera got Carlos Ruiz for the 1st out but Jimmy Rollins then walked to bring up Shane Victorino as the tying run to the plate, and on a 1-1 pitch Victorino got one weakly passed Texiera to make it a 1st & 2nd situation for Chase Utley with Ryan Howard lurking. The Phillies had the right guys up but the Yankees still had Mo, the count had run to 3-2 on Utley and Rivera needed to make a pitch, with the runners staying put Utley bounced one hard towards Cano who fed Jeter who turned 2 for the crucial inning ending double play, Utley may have been safe at 1st but the Yankees will take it as Rivera had done it again. After that it was over for the Phillies as Rivera then got Matt Stairs for the final out of the game, as the series was now tied, and the Yankee were back in it.
We now take a day off as things move to Philadelphia for some NL style baseball, last year WS MVP Cole Hamels who been nothing but eratic this season will square off vs Andy Petitte who has been nothing but a gem thus far in the postseason, as both teams look for the edge in game 3 on Saturday.
Note: on what had to be a 1st, Jay-Z along with Alicia Keys got the Yankee crowd going before game 2 last night by singing what has NOW become the Yankee's anthem during this postseason on Fox, a song called (NY state of mind) Is this what baseball has now become? is this the NFL?

I'm sorry, but what true Yankee fan was hiding? If they were, it was because you couldn't see it over the outstretched mouth of a lot of Philly fans.
Pedro pitched well but what was Manuel thinking bringing this guy out for the seventh? The word of the pitcher IN THE DUGOUT is the last one to trust. Pedro would never say, "I'm done." Now he says he was under the weather. In 2003 his shoulder was hurting.
Manuel says he goes by his gut? He should have listened cause that gut is huge.
NL style baseball? Yes, I can't wait till Melky gets walked to pitch to Andy. It's a very skillful and strategic move.
The NFL? Such a putrid comparison. If we were anything like the NFL, we would have had thorough replay years ago.
Hey Freddy...Who was hiding? We're not Mets fans who disappear when things dont go our way.
Yeah, it was a bit odd to see Jay-Z performing in centerfield at Yankee Stadium. Its a sign of the times I guess. Oh and Alicia Keys has a ghetto booty.
MLB needs to institute some sort of replay.
Oh please Danny, 1st of all I wrote on Lee's performance & you & Ray had no comments till this morning when you had something to say after the fact, My co-worker who posted all the Yankees clippings the other day took the day off, I didn't really mean you guys here when I was talking about the hiding but since you came in and took my writing that way I put you guys in too.
I do agree with you that Manuel should had taken Pedro out in the 6th, but like he said he went with his big gut.
Don't cry now that the Yankees will lose the DH, don't worry the Phillies wont have one either.
No comments? Wow, Fred how quickly we forget. Didn't I email you yesterday and said that the Phils played a GREAT game? Believe me no one over here is hiding.
Who's crying about the no DH? The only crying is coming from the Mets who are watching the World Series from there favorite gay bars across the USA.
Man Alicia Key was shaking her money maker!
That Big old ghetto booty was busting out of them jeans.
Like I said Ray it wasn’t meant for you guys, I just threw you in there because of Danny, and yes you did not leave me any comments on my post, you guys like to cry when I don’t write stuff up, (when are you going to write a new post?) Well there it was and no comments? Hey man you know I’m just breaking your balls Ray.
Oh and I don’t go to bars so I’m not the gay guy.
First of all I said the Mets were watching from gay bars not Met fans.
Man, Alicia Keys booty looked huge. Maybe it was the HD tv.
Nah man I think she has put on some weight, those legs were looking nice & meaty, you know us blacks and hispanic just put on the weight after 30.
I had to make sure I wasn't crazy. This was my last post on your World Series Edition.
"Hey Freddy about your last post. I have a distinct feeling that you are dealing with after 1996 fans. There is a big difference between them and us. In fact, I wouldn't even go as far as calling those guys true fans. I wouldn't do the dumb shit you're describing.
Anyway, let me save you some typing about last nights game. As I told Ray. Thank goodness there aren't 4 Cliff Lee's in the Phillies because he was brilliant. Tip your cap and look to even it up tonight."
I WROTE ABOUT CLIFF LEE'S PERFORMANCE BEFORE YOU DID.
Maybe you need to have your clock cleaned by a Pedro fastball - Pedro lover.
Yeah, and who's crying about the DH? As far as I'm concerned. The Yankees have dominated interleague play since it has been instituted.
The Yankees win - TTTHHHHEE Yankees win. I'm glad that the Yanks purchased a ticket back to New York. That crowd was ridiculous and dumb. Andy never did steroids. Ray was wondering why they weren't crying "wife beater" when Brett Myers came in to pitch. I guess that's ok.
