The Angels did manage to stay within striking distance throughout the game but once again it was more sloppy play from this fundamentally sound Angels team that helped seal the deal. To many mistakes were made in this series by the Angels and last night was no different, 1st it was VLAD Guerrero in the 2nd with another base running blunder getting doubled off at 1st, then in the 8th after VLAD had made it a 3-2 game, a dropped ball by Howie Kendricks & a ball thrown away by Scott Kazmir led to 2 more runs which pretty much spelled the end for the Angels right there. To be honest the Angels looked as if they were scared of the Yankees. With the Yanks up 5-2 in the 9th, in came Rivera for his 2nd inning of work as he got a 1, 2, 3, as the celebration to the World Series began on the field.
It was another strong game for Alex Rodriguez who stayed locked in as they say for a 2nd straight series now, on this night he had 3 walks and a laser between 3rd & short as he continued his strong post season showing. Before this series began I said that both A-ROD & Texiera must come up big if the Yanks are to get past the Angels, but in this series it was all about A-ROD as he pretty much did it all to lead the way. For the 1st time in his career A-ROD will be in the WS, so can I say this is his defining moment as a Yankee? I think so. Never has A-ROD been this good in a Yankee uniform, and to do it in the playoffs where he has so offend in the past sucked balls, speak volumes.
After the game the FOX cameras got a hold of Derek Jeter for an interview & quickly reminded the Captain that the Yankees are now back in the WS for the 1st time since 2003, and that they have not won it since 2000, way to bring out the negative is how Jeter quickly responded, Jeter went on to say were just trying to enjoy this moment, and then he started to break down as the emotion took over him. It's been a while for the core 4, Posada & Rivera had their moment with a long hug as they slowly met half way between home and the mound, & Pettite, well he did his thing, now they will be looking for #5 as a core with the new guys around them that haven't won.
So now it's on to the WS, and on paper this one should have lots of runs, we all know that both teams are stacked offensively & that they both play in dinky ballparks, so scoring runs should be no problem, but then as they like to say good pitching beats good offense, and both teams have that too, so what gives?
Both teams know how to win so picking a winner won't be easy, the Phillies are the defending champs but the Yankees look real good & they have the home field edge, not only that but they have a guy by the name of Mariano Rivera. If the Yankees can get a lead after 7 innings, it's pretty much over, but again these are the fighting Phillies.
As a Met fan who has suffered so much this season, now I have to deal with a World Series that has the Evil Empire taking on our rivals from Philadelphia, oh the anguish. On SNY which is the Mets baseball station, they had a poll and it was pretty much 50 50 as far as Met fans taking sides in this WS, I have no problem going for the Phillies in this one, my hate for the Yankees is that much greater so for me it was a no brainer, besides I am a NL guy & the AAA circuit must represent. So please don't let it be the Yankees, I can only imagine having to deal with all those arrogant Yankees fans who for the last few years I've have pissed off with the way I have talked about their favorite team, I can here them now.
:won't be easy but look for a write up after each game.

I'm just hoping for a good series which I think we'll get.
I think ARod should have gotten the LCS MVP, CC was great but he was only in for 2 games and ARod did it every game.
I have no idea how to call this series, it really could go eithier way. Like I said, I'm just hoping that its a good series.
I was also surprise that the MVP did not go to A-ROD, I agree, now if Sabathia would had to pitch a game 7 & won it, then it's C.C.
But it should had gone to A-ROD.
I amicably disagree. Pitching is the cornerstone to any championship as Derek has been saying all these years. Ray, u texted and asked me after the game and I told you CC. He was not only good, he was untouchable. ARod was out of this world. At best they could have made it a co-award but how can you legitimatelty put a knock on CC? Don't forget that he was better on short rest than on extra rest. Don't forget.
No knock on CC whatsoever but the Yankees won both games he pitched by a combined score of 14-2. ARod did it all 6 games and the Yankees don't win without him. They should have had co-MVP for that series.
Maybe so, but it might be good for Arod to feel like part of the team instead of being responsible for it (in good or bad times).
Try to follow my logic:
It seems that him relaxing has let him understand that the next guy can get it done. It's not all on him no matter how much money he makes. If he were to win the MVP, he would probably start feeling like 'I carried this team' and therfore make him think 'I have to continue to carry this team.' If he felt that way he might just try too hard and get himself back to that ugly place he's been in on prior post seasons.
In other words, it's in his head.
CC deserved that award no less than A-rod did. I think we are so used to seeing CC pitch well that we take him for granted. Not this time. Not for me.
Freddy, this link is for you. Just so you don't think we are making this up. Here ya go and let me know what you think.
http://bats.blogs.nytimes.com/2009/10/27/al-vs-aaaa/?emc=eta1
Long article with a lot of numbers, some that I had a hard time comprehending, but if you want me to say that the AL is better, hey I give you that.
But to think that the AL is that much better then the NL to the point were it is a AAA league....well right now it may look that way, but that stat with the NL not winning the ALLSTAR game since 1997, you can throw that stat out the window, remember when the AL could not beat the NL in the like 13 straight years?
I have said and believe that the biggest reason why the AL looks better then the NL is because of the DH, I have to say this started in the 90's along with the steroids ERA, were you guest it, most of those DH looked and were on it, back in the 80's the DH was just an ok hitter who could handle a bat, while in the 90's these DH where bigger, hit more homeruns because of this. The DH is the biggest reason because the runs difference between the 2 leagues is mostly right there in the DH. But because of this the NL is a more strategic league because it has to try & manufacture runs, the manager has more work to do in the NL with more moves to do, while in the AL this part of the game is a bit lost. The AL is the more offensive league so this give them an advantage.
Another arguement here is that yes the AL does have a slight edge with the better players playing in their league, heck all you have to do is look at the NY Yankee's, they have most of those good players right there, so for sure this gives the AL another edge.
I guess this make the NL the underdog league, or the AAA league whatever you want to call, it's like the minority league.
I never said that the NL was better then the AL, I just try to blame the big reason on the DH.
Game 1 tonight...can't wait. You heard that Rollins predicted the Phillies in 5? Thats some bold shit right there. You gotta respect that.
The DH just makes the AL look smarter not necessarily better. Your wole strategy thing in the NL is garbage. Nobody wants to see the pitcher bat. I don't want to see Pujols pitch. They should just get with the 21st century of baseball.
Yeah, Rollins in five. Other than basketball and maybe hockey, I have never heard of a player calling a series. You gotta love it. I mean when you think about it, what was he supposed to say, "Yanks in six?"
I know I said that when the Yanks played the Angels that most people though that series was the WS, and I happened to agree, but I have to say I was wrong, no way are the Angels better then the Phils.
Should be a solid series, Rollins he's a gamer, and bold character, well you know the Phillies have a lot of guys like Rollin’s.
Now how does the DH look smarter? What do you mean about Pujols pitching?
(And having strategy is garbage?)
I guess the AL losing some of the technical parts of the game is a smart thing,
I think the DH just makes the AL look better because it gives the fans more runs, you know what they say, chicks dig the long ball, well if we let chicks dictate what makes baseball better this is the kind of thing that happens.
Scoring more runs does not necessarily make the game better, but to some, especially those impatience just there to be seen at the game type of fans, this is better because those are the types of fans who are easily bored with good fundamental baseball.
Yeah we all saw what the fundamental Angels had in store for us. People love to say that the Angels looked like they play scared but I think the Yanks flat outplayed the Angels. The Yanks could have made the same disasterous errors but didn't. Their big pick up Kazmir, stunk it up big time.
Do I really have to answer that question about Pujols pitching? It's this simple. Do you want to see Pujols pitch? Probably not right? Well I don't want to see Johan Santana bat.
There is plenty of strategy in baseball other than deciding if I'm going to pitch to the number eight hitter in the NL (number nine in the AL) or if I want to pitch to the pitcher. That's really exciting.
The way you are talking about the Phils, I think the Mets are going to need at least a decade to win that division again.
I hate the Red Sox, you should really hate the Phils. You have to keep your baseball alliances and priorities in check.
So I did an informal poll of die hard Mets fans that I know and all of them, admitted that they while they dislike both teams they rather see the Yankees win than the Phillies.
Well we will agree to disagree, I'm a NL guy & you're a AL guy, so of course there is going to be a disagreement on this issue. I already said that the AL is better but you just want the whole cake.
And why should I hate the Phils more then I should hate the Yankees?
You make it sound like the Phillies & Mets have been having this rivalry for like 20 years. Don’t worry my priorities are in check on this issue, I have every reason to dislike the Yankees more then the Phillies, I don’t know how you don’t understand that.
And if the Mets need a decade to dethrone the Phillies then let it be it, of course it does not make me happy but I can live with that, it's not like were the Yankees where they have to be in it to win it every year.
Yea & I did a poll here, in NYC, and we have more fans here that say they want the Phils to win.
Do you guys really find it hard to believe that they are Met fans that are going against the Yankees? I mean really?
No, I don't find it hard to believe at all. We all know that Met fans have a huge inferiority complex when it comes to the Yankees.
ok so you do understand the inferoity part of it, but can't accept that most of us Met fans will be pulling for the Phils in this series?, I mean I'm just saying, Danny can't seem to understand it and you have even taken polls.
It really should be a no brainer.
Man it is raining like crazy, and it's been like that all morning, I think today's game may have to be postponed.
Listening to Michael Kay right now and Cashman is on and they're saying all the weather reports are that the rain will stop around 6.
There is going to be some serious slipping & sliding going on tonight if they play.
There won't be any slipping and sliding if the rain stops as predicted. The Yanks field drains great AND they might just bring in those choppers like they have done in the past to dry the field.
Having an inferiority complex as a person is bad enough but having it as a fan is just plain dumb. The Mets spend enough mney that you should be DEMANDING that they have a winning team out there all the time. Period.
You go ahead and root for YOUR Phils. Do I understand it? No. I mean you have Mr. Rollins just calling out the Mets every year for the last three years and you guys take it like the chumps that you are. Sorry, but that's the truth.
BTW, the game will be played in its entirety tonight. It's just a matter of when.
I’m sure if you were a Met you would probably understand, I’m not saying that I have that inferiority complex, to me it’s just a game, but to a lot of Met fans they do. Imagine if you had to grow up a Met fan and all your life you have to put up with Yankees fans rubbing it in every time they get a chance, that’s what happens here.
You know all week I’ve been hearing things from Yankee fans, stuff like, back where we belong, 4 & 0 baby, 27 titles, even today I got back to work after taking Monday and Tuesday off and this Yankee fan at my job decides to hang all kinds of Yankees clipping all around my office, I mean I thought it was funny that he went all out of his way to do all that, only Yankee fans can afford to do all that to a Met fan.
The rain has stopped.
Hey Freddy about your last post. I have a distinct feeling that you are dealing with after 1996 fans. There is a big difference between them and us. In fact, I wouldn't even go as far as calling those guys true fans. I wouldn't do the dumb shit you're describing.
Anyway, let me save you some typing about last nights game. As I told Ray. Thank goodness there aren't 4 Cliff Lee's in the Phillies because he was brilliant. Tip your cap and look to even it up tonight.
You may be right about my co-worker, the funny thing is that he is in his 50's & claims to be a long time Yankee fan, but I think he is more of a bandwagon who jumped shipped around 96.
It's just funny, he even got me a Yankee and hung it with the rest of the clippings and said that if the Yankees lose that he would wear my Met hat for a week & if the Yanks win I would have to wear the Yankee hat, but I decline LOL.
I meant to say he got me a Yankee hat.
