One week into the new season & what we have is 1 team on the way up & another team on the downs. The team from Queens began their 1st week of the season at home but there was no home cooking, while the Defending champs did their thing on the road & came out sitting pretty.
Let me start off with the drama that is the NY Mets. The Mets needed a strong start to the season & while they started off both series on the right foot, they would go on to drop the next 2 in each series. So after 1 week of baseball in Queens what we have from the Mets is a team that is in last place. Not exactly the start Jerry Manuel & Omar had in mind but to stay on the bright side there was some good. In the 1st week we saw the Mets fight back & come back from 6 runs down only to lose it in the end. Versus the Nationals the only game the Mets won was on Friday were the Mets would go deep 4 times to easily beat the Nats 8-2. Jeff Francouer & Rod Barajas go deep twice a piece, & it was good to see Mike Pelphey give the Mets a solid effort on a very cold & uncomfy day at the park which I attended. The Mets were looking very offensive on this night so I left the game feeling good about my Metsies, it was cold!
The bats would go ice cold the next 2 games as the Mets would lose the series to the Nats thanks to fucking Willie Harris who once again did in the Mets. Ollie Perez did pitched ok in this one but how can you let Willy Tavares drives in all the runs to beat you 4-3? It was typical Ollie giving up the big hit to Tavares when he had him on a 0&2 count with the pitcher on deck, focus!
On Sunday we had our Ace on the mound looking to get the Mets to 500 vs former Met cast off Livian Hernandez, if you had to make a bet this one felt pretty good. But in this game it would be Josh Willingham who would drive in all 5 runs for the Nats when he took Santana deep in the very 1st inning with the base loaded for a instant reply grand salami which deflated the Mets on the spot. Once again Santana was having a hard time reaching 90 on the radar so of course I have my concerns with the ACE. That was all she wrote as the Mets 1st home stand does not go as plan at 2-4.
If you want to look for the positives, 1 was that the bullpen looked strong, also Jose Reyes is back to playing some ball, & Jeff Francouer continues to look good in a Met uniform. Now the Mets go on the road to open a series in Colorado tomorrow, then follow that with a series vs Albert Pujols & the Cardinals. Yup it was a small sample to the 1st week of the season so lets try & stay optimistic.
So far no RBI's for Jason Bay in the 1st week, but I already know I'm going to love having Bay representing the Mets.
What I also notice was a lot of empty seats at Citi, Oh & I also counted 38 ads on the outfield section alone, I must admit that now that I see it from this perspective, there was a lot of ads to count, do the Mets lead the league in ads?
that could be a good bet.
And now the NY Yankees, they got off to a nice start to the season on the road vs. 2 very tough teams in the Sox & the Rays. You have to be very happy if your a Yankee fan especially when you lose the 1st game of each series. On Saturday C.C. went for the NO NO, & in doing so he rebounds from his opening day dud. No one really stands out to begin the season on the Yankees, as usual it was a team effort that has the Yankee coming back home on the right side of the track.
Yes Texiera starts off as he did in 09, but do we have to start this all over again? And if you ask John Sterling Curtis Granderson is something sort of grandish, what a tool. All in all you can't really complain about what the Yankees have done so far to start the new season. They could had very easily been 5-1 but you can't win them all.
The Yankees now come home for their home opener tomorrow vs Matsui & the LAA Angels where they will get some bling, followed by a series with the Texas Rangers. I'm just glad that baseball is back!
Any additional thoughts?

Haven't really seen much of the Mets, I think the national TV partners are afraid of putting them on.
I've always like Franceur, he's always been a staple on all my fantasy league teams.
I'm glad that you were able to see that amount of advertising in Citi. Its not even in the outfield but walking around the stadium and especailly in that back area where the food court is.
As for the Yankees, I'm very happy with the start. Getting hitting from everyone except Tex but we all know he'll come around. Granderson has been money. Vasquez got smacked around but lets wait and see how he settles in. The bullpen has been pretty much solid and Mo is Mo.
Let's see how they fare against Anaheim and Texas this week. I've been watching Anaheim the last few days because they were dropping 2 of 3 to Oakland and let me tell you, I'm not impressed. I'm more excited about the series w/the Rangers.
Tomorrow should be a great day at the stadium as the Yankees get there rings and the banner goes up.
Well I concentrated on the outfield backdrop area of the field, that is where most of the ads are placed, 38 is alot ads.
When I get Yankee stadium again I will count that same area. Yes those were not the only ads.
The Angels were another team that did not get off to a good start, but you know they play their best vs the Yankees. I exspect them to be right there in the end fighting for a playoff spot & not the A's, look at Toronto right now their in 1st place, how long before they come down to earth, another week?
I know this is been brought up before but I have to say it again if this is the New York Baseball Scene blog then why only Mets photos on it? I see you have a Met player of the week. Where is the Yankee player of the week? Again it is the New York baseball scene, that it is what says on my web browser.
Ok, I said it before I'll say it again I don't think the Angels will win the division or at least they won't win it with the ease that they have the last couple of years. Who said that the A's would be fighting for a playoff spot? I know I didn't. I said that they dropped 2 of 3 vs. the A's this past weekend. The Blue Jays? In the words of the infamous ODB, Nigga Please.
Hey I have had plenty of Yanks pics on here before, but of course this is mostly Mets stuff with just enough Yankee news, so that is why you see mostly Mets Mets Mets. It's the NY Baseball scene from a Yankee's hater point of view. I can try & add a Yankee player of the week to please you but I don't think I can do that as I am kind of limited as far as what the blog lets me do.
The Angels will have a much harder time trying to make the playoffs, but I still think they are the best team in that division. I wasn't implying that you thought the A's were going to make the playoffs, I was just saying they ain't better then the Angels just because they beat them this past weekend, that is why I brought up the Blue Jays & their hot start to the season as nothing to go crazy about. The Angels are still better then those 2 & I know your right there with me on this.
Hey check it out, I got the Yankee player of the week for you, check out Donnie Baseball looking dapper as this week honorary Yankee.
Going back to your original post. I wouldn't say that CC's opening night was a dud. Girardi kept him in there after he couldn't find the plate. He was cruising pretty decently thru 5 and then he forgot where the plate was.
Anyway, I haven't been looking for the articles. Sry. I have a feeling I'm not going to find anything that was mention per circumstance about Citi ads.
It was a nice day at the stadium today. Hey Ray did u hear about Jerry Hairston Jr? He was supposed to be in SD tomorrow but he didn't care. That dude did nit want to pass up the chance to get his ring on his day off. Amazing.
Freddy, you did a great job putting up Mattingly there. I can definitely live with that all yr. Poor guy, the WS avoids him at every turn.
Hey I was looking for some articals on that myself & had no luck, but yea after further review Citi had lots of ads that did not come to mind in the begining.
Ray was jabbing me about not having any Yankee pics last week so I had to make things better.
