It was a bright & sunny afternoon at the new ballpark, new because it looked new, & like it should had looked when it opened last season. The Mets brass did some changes & added some Mets paraphernalia all over Citifield after the fans voiced their displeasure with the lack of Mets history last year. The Mets colors were added, the HR apple is now out by the J.R. rotunda entrance no longer tucked away in the basement, & a Mets Hall of Fame was added. The voices were herd & now Citifield looks like the home of the Mets. The stadium looked good so it was time for the players to be introduced, & who got the biggest boos? it was the Met trainers, & of the players? it was none other then Ollie Perez who got the loudest boooos, the fans were on point. Darryl Strawberry was there to throw out the 1st pitch so it was time to play some ball.
Everything looked great & it all went as planned as it turned out to be a great day all around. It was a great day because Johan Santana won his 3rd straight opener as a Mets, improving the franchise record to 32-17 on opening day, best percentage in baseball history. It was a great day because David Wright went deep in his 1st at-bat to give the Mets the early lead & to give Met fans hope that this will be a David Wright kind of a year. It was a great day because the Mets newest Met Jason Bay didn't disappoint hustling hard for a triple & a hit.
On opening day the Mets took care of business by beating the Marlins 7-1 but it was only 1 day. Now it's time for the rest of the Mets staff to follow Santana's lead. John Maine will take the ball after a day off today to continue the series on Wesdenday. It was just one game & one day to stay optimistic that this season will be a whole lot better then what we had in 09.
On the other side of town the NY Yankees will continue their series vs the Boston Redsox after a day off on Monday in which they blew their opener on Sunday. Again this is too much to soon if you ask me, let's face it Bud Selig is no David Stern when it comes to commissioner's & he needs to understand that opening day is exciting by itself. Open up the season with the KC Royals, no need to feed us the early intensity that is these NY vs Boston series. Opening day is about finally having baseball back & continuing the old tradition. Not only did Selig blew it by having this series to open up the season, but he double blew it by having the defending champions open on the road vs their biggest rivals. The least you could had done is open up in Yankee stadium Bud. Save this series for a later date, I like to ease myself into the long season that is MLB.

First of all, what a game last night with Duke-Butler. I felt terrible for the kids from Butler. With that said lets move on.
Wow, the Mets were able to squeeze in Mets colors and paraphernalia among all the advertisement? I guess they probably had a couple of square feet left that wasn't plastered by ads. Now the season really begins for your beloved Mets because after Santana the Mets have 4 huge question marks.
As for the Yankees, the bullpen didn't look good but then again neither did the Sox. Its just one game so I'm not even about to begin to worry.
Didn't see the Duke Butler game, but to bad for Butler.
The Mets had plenty of space to squeeze in all that stuff, advertisement is just part of the game, don't make it seem like the Mets are the only ones here.
Your right, right now the real season begins for the Mets after Santana, I told you I don't expect nothing from Ollie it's going to be between Pelphey, Maine and Niese to step it up. It's a long season so no need to lose it so soon like a desperate fan, enjoy the games for now and let’s see in late May how things are going along.
Really? Could have fooled me. I guess there are some scattered spots that they havent sold to advertisers. Yeah its part of the game but Citi Field is like being in a NASCAR car.
Yup its a long ass season, can't really take things too seriously til at least June 1st.
Freddy u get so defensive. Ray isn't kidding. I don't even need to go to citi field to see that it looks like an 80's tv movie minor league field of advertisements. It is what it is. Don't deny it. It's not that other squads don't do it but the Mets took it to another level last yr. I remember hearing a lot of professional analysts saying the same last yr.
I'm just surprised the Mets don't have advertisements for gold. Yeah gold. I mean Glenn Beck swears by it when people get all frantic about the government infringing on their liberties and the economy bring in the toilet. I mean the govt owns a large stake in citibank so doesn't the stadium really belong to Obama right now? I'm just thinking out loud.
I just finished watching the last couple of innings of the Mets game. Yes, the Mets games. I had time to kill.
So I watched the Marlins attempt to give the Mets a win last night, eerily similar to the Yanks first game vs the Sux. Except the Sux took what the Yanks were giving and the Mets couldn't.
The Marlins pitching staff gave up nine BB. Nine BB. Not only that, the bullpen gave up six walks in two friggin inning. Man it's a shame that the Mets couldn't punish them. That's all I got.
So what your saying is that CitiField is in a league of their own when it comes to advertisements. You even say that you remember a lot of analyst saying the same last year, well who are these professionals who said this because as far as I know I only herd this here from you guys. Send me some articles, copy & paste, It's like when Ray gave me his Citifield review last year, the only real negative he could come up with about the new park was this.
Look at Fenway park, an old traditional ballpark, back in the day their famous advertisement was that Citgo sign on top of the green monster, now look at it today, it's still there, but you hardly notice it now because of the many advertisements they have today. It's the same as in Citifield & all the other ballparks. Again it is what it is, and it is all over the landscape, not just in baseball.
Talk about nit picking guys, when I went to the new Yankee stadium to give my review, this kind of thinking never enter my mind, advertisement? get real.
Yea the Marlins should had lost that one, 9 walks is to much. It's only the 2nd game so I will let it slide. The Mets lineup needs more punch, can't wait for Reyes next week.
Holy shit, you want me to find articles for over a yr ago? You know how crazy that is? I'll tell you what buddy, you asked the wrong person because I'll find them. It might take me awhile because I'm sure no articles were written specifically about the ads. But there were many articles that had mention of that. Give me a bit. I never read about it but I'll find it. I know for sure the baseball tonight personnel mentioned it in the beginning of last yr. And I'm pretty sure I heard it somewhere else. You think I'm making this shit up. I never said the Muts were exclusive to the ads but they are exclusive to the bombardment of ads. I'm sure I can find literature on this. Be patient grasshopper.
Oh, and when I find the literature, don't be a puss. Admit I brought it to you and that I backed myself up as I always do.
What you need to admit is that Citifield is no different then Fenway or any other ballpark in the majors today. Do we have to start counting ads when we go to ballparks now just to justify this?
I’ll be patience .
Uhh yes it is. Schitty Field is different because of the bombardment of ads. Yes, all stadiums have ads but nothing like Citi. The Mets have to make up the money they lost to Madoff somehow.
Anyways, I found a Mets blog and saw this gem:
"Another thing that detracts from the intimacy of Citi Field is the overwhelming presence of immense, ugly ads. Citi Field was a beautiful piece of architecture when it first went up. There were lovely arches and colonnades, a kind of retro-brownstone beauty.
That beauty is still visible if the building is approached from some angles. But from most angles of approach, this gentle aesthetic effect has been destroyed by the size and appearance of the billboards. Inside the stadium, the ads dwarf the scoreboard and take up far too much of our field of vision. All of this ugliness prevents intimacy. As fans, we are looking for things we have always been intimate with: the team’s vivid blue and orange colors, the wonderful logo, etc. We don’t see those things, and we don’t see much about our history and heritage except for the recently installed Nikon ads. We don’t see ourselves, we don’t see our team, but we see ads everywhere. This too prevents us from feeling any intimacy in the new stadium."
Again, that came from a Mets blog.
I've been to over 20 different ballparks and Citi Field easily ranks #1 in beating you over the head with ads. So yes Fred we'll give you that Citi isnt different from other parks as far as ads but Citi definetly has the most. Thats what we're saying.
So again, what you guys are saying is that Citi is in a league of their own. Right.
You know, & like I said b4, I never went into a ballpark and & took this kind of thinking into account, but because of you guys, from now on I will be counting ads.
I'm going to Citi tomorrow, so I will be looking at all the bombardments of ads.
You asked me my thoughts on Citi Field and I gave it to you. If you don't notice that, its ok but its the one thing that really stuck out to me. My wife said the exact same thing so I wasn't the only one and going by what I've seen online and what Danny has said he's seen and heard we're not the only one. Just an observation on the ballpark. The park has it good points as well but to me the biggest thing I noticed when I went was the overwhelming abundance of advertising.
It's your take & it's a fair one to say the least, but I will still be looking out for the bombardments thought out all of MLB to try & prove you wrong. I'm going to use Fenway vs. Citifield, & that's not even a new ballpark.
Um, prove what wrong? You're not listening. We didn't say other ballparks don't have ad issues but Citi went another level. It's not personal. It is what it is. Hey, I heard the Muts made changes to the ballpark so who knows if ads were one of the changes.
LOL, yea if anything they probably added some more.
