But if your a follower of the NY Yankees your season has been pretty sweet considering the team has hit a few injuries bumps but you continue to win games. This week things were not as good for the Yanks as they had their 1st losing week of the season by posting a 3-4 week of baseball. After losing the series to the Detroit Tigers the Yankees got back to taking them by taking care of the Twins. The Twins who last year had their season end when they were swept in the playoffs vs the Yankees, avoided another sweep on Sunday. For some reason the Twins have not been able to handle these Yankees lately, kind of like when the Yanks would lose to the HALOS. You have to feel a bit sorry for a team like the Twins who are a model organization who does things the right way, sometimes I wish my Mets would be more like the Twins. This is a 1st place team with some quality players but beating the Yankees has not been their thing, that's until yesterday when Jason Kubel took Mariano Rivera deep for the surprising grand slam to end a 9 game losing skid to NY.
Ray you said to me last week before this series that you were a little worry with your Yankees because they had lost a few games vs. the Tigers, I counter by saying how can you worry about these Yankees. To see Yankees fans worry about little things like when are the Yankees going to get rid of Javier Vasquez, or about getting shoutout twice vs the Tigers amazes me. Do you really worry about that lineup? You want to know what worrying is about?, worry about John Maine & Ollie Perez being part of your rotation & completely whithering in front of you whenever they take the mound. This is where the drama in NY is, the Mets are full of drama & for all the wrong reasons of course. Remember what I have said many times here before, the Yanks are going through the motions. They will be ok & will make the playoffs with no real problems just like they have been for all those years before. Remember you have only missed the playoffs once in like the last 16 years when Girardi took over & the Yankees proceeded to break the bank to fix things. You guys will be ok.
So lets switch the topic to the drama that is the NY Mets, who once again are in panic mode. Talk about a up & down season, 1st it was the 4-8 start that had Jerry Manuel on the hot seat & Met fans on the edge, then it was the 8-0 streak that had the Mets on cloud 9 to the tune of Lets go Mets! & then 2 weeks later & the Mets are back to playing some panicky baseball. A big problem has been Jason Bay, Wright & Francouer who are still whiffing when it counts, especially Wright who broke 2 Mets records he will not be proud of, on Sunday Wright set the Mets club record by fanning in 13 straight games, & then earlier in the week we saw Wright struck out in 9 consecutive at-bats. All I can say is what is wrong with David Wright?
Offensively the Mets are a solid mess, especially with RISP. To many times we have seen this team leave runners on to die, & with 2 outs you can forget about it, not going to happen. Right now the only hitters in this lineup who I can feel a little confident at the plate are Rod Barajas & Ike Davis, after that there is not much too feel confident about with these Mets. We thought it would be the pitching that would do the Mets in but so far I have to say it is the lack of hitting when it counts.
But lets talk about the pitching, the topic, John Maine & Ollie Perez. I don't know what else I can say about these 2 but they have to go. I am kind of glad that Perez stunk so bad because now the Mets are obligated to do something. Right now he is no longer part of the rotation, what they will do with him I don't care, I just don't want to see his face even on the bench. Perez will most likely be sent to the bullpen as a mop up guy or to the minors where he belongs, 12 million dollars for this? Omar this is your legacy as a Mets GM, your biggest mistake. In his last outing Perez was rocked for 9 hits & 7 runs in 3 innings giving up 4 homeruns in another Perez classic. Every time Perez went out on the mound for the Mets this season we were bound to lose. The Mets gave him 7 starts & in the 7 starts the Mets were losers as he was unable to pick up a single win. I don't know how long I have been saying this but this guy Perez lost what ever he had that earned him that contract when he signed it. He could not live up to the contract given to him.
This awful outing by Perez was then followed by a John Maine outing and you knew what was coming, & how could the Mets have these 2 losers going back to back? I said earlier in the year how the Mets needed to treat this guy Maine like they treated Perez last season when they made up that injury for Perez & sent him to the DL. Maine has lost his confident to the point were he is making up excuses, on Saturday night with the Mets on a 3 game losing streak, & with Perez's previous outing very much on Met fans minds, Maine took the mound and proceeded to throw 12 straight balls to start the game, yes that is 3 straight walks folks. Maine would walk another in that same inning as the Mets were well on their way to their 4th straight lost to those Marlins who continue to beat us like they own us.
Yes it was another tough week to be a Mets fan, just when you thought the Mets were going to be good you wake up and you find them in last place again. Let's be happy that the season is still young & that Ollie Perez is no longer part of this rotation & that soon it will be the same for John Maine. For now these 2 hacks roles will hopefully be reduce to pretty much nothing to do with the Mets. Their negative play was always apparent whenever they took the field, & it started to infect others on the team as well.
So keep the faith Mets fans & keep waiting for the post season if you root for the Yankees. There is still plenty of baseball left to the season so lets be patience.

Of course you worry when you start seeing the injuries pile up. I dont want the Yankees to turn into the 2009 Mets. Luckily the Yankees have had guys step up from within the system, it feels good to say that, but the injuries are a bit worrisome. Hopefully this will be it for any major injuries and the Yankees can have everyone back by next month.
As for the Mets, they're just a mess. I heard somewhere that Perez refused to be sent down to the minors. I guess he rather be the mop up guy. Whats up with David Wright? That guy has turned into a strike out machine? Not a good time in Queens.
You're lucky that the Yankees haven't had any major injuries, so not even close to the 2009 Mets. Your fine.
