It's that special time of the season where losers look to cash in and the winners look to reinforce, the final week of the Hot Stove season is here and the wheeling and dealings are heating up. Improvements are well underway as teams like the Houston Astros and KC Royals already bolstering their rotation by getting Scott Kazmir and Johnny Cueto respectably, than early this morning Tulo became a Blue Jay in exchange for Jose Reyes who was sent packing to the Rockies. Things are getting real. So as we get near the end of the week I like to chimed in and give you my 2 cent with the NY teams possible deals and hopeful wish list.
Surprisingly the Mets have gotten to work, after weeks of inactivity in which the fanbase was desperately calling for moves that never came Sandy Alderson and the Wilpons have finally done something. 3 days ago Sandy traded for Kelly Johnson and Juan Uribe from the Braves in a minor move that has already begun to pay off when Juan Uribe walk off hit sent everyone home happy helping to split the important series vs. the Dodgers. Than last night Alderson called up his old buddies in Oakland and dealt for Tyler Clippard, so not bad for starters, hopefully there is more to come.
But let me move on with the other team in NY..
In my last post I said that the NY Yankees would need to ad another staring pitcher going forward, that although they are in 1st place they won't be running away with the division, well... 10 days after that post the Yanks look poised to run away with it, at the moment only the SF Giants are a hotter team and everyone else in the division is struggling to keep up. By the look of things the NY Yankees may not need to make any moves after all, with a 6 and half game lead in the division they are more than sitting pretty in the already week AL East. But this is the NY Yankees and they are not one to just stand pat and do nothing around this time of the year. Unlike the NY Mets who need to count their coupons and never make any moves the Yankees make moves just to make em. No way will they just stand around while division leaders like the Royals and Astros get better.
No one really knows but the possibilities could be big or small, like I said the most likely scenario is a pitcher, a Jeff Samardzija or a Mike Leake. Some have said adding another arm in the bullpen may be the way to go, someone like a Craig Kimbrel or someone like Aroldis Chapman who I would love on the Mets, some say this would be overkill but hey pitching is what wins. Whatever it is expect something, I don't believe for one minute that Brian Cashman is doing nothing because that just never happens.
Now back to the Mets...
Will Sandy continue to surprise us and make that big move for a big bat? You heard the names, Justin Upton, Carlos Gomez, Jay Bruce, Yeonis Cespedes, if I had my choice I would love to see Carlos Gomez, but I just don't see it happening, not with Michael Conforto already here taking up a spot in LF. The only other positions I see fit for upgrades are SS or CF, getting a Jean Segura to play short would be nice but if nothing is done I'm fine Ruben Tejada. So that leaves us at CF where we have Juan Lagares who this season has regress due to his lingering shoulder problems, this is where a guy like Carlos Gomez would be nice, or Gerardo Parra who would fit in just as nicely. Either one would solve the leadoff situation.
Sandy Alderson and the Wilpon's have been ripped all season for the lack of reinforcements, for not doing anything to help the team and their shortcomings, but now a move here and there and the fanbase is back on ship, all that's missing is that one big move to really get the fan base going. I always liked Sandy Alderson and his conservative approach and although it took a while to do things I really never had a problem cause there was really nothing out there to be had.
As things heat up it will be interesting to see if any of my wishful predictions come true. One thing is for sure players will continue to be moved around, look for teams like the LA Dodgers and the Giants to ad some pitching and make some noise, for the Nationals and Angels to get in the action, and hopefully for the NY baseball teams there is more to come this way.

Royals going for broke with Cueto and Zobrist. I don't get the Tulo move for the Jays, they already have the best offense in the league so you would think they would go for a pitcher. Maybe they have another move brewing. The Met's moves have been ok but nothing earth shattering, they still need a big bat to really help. Getting Johnson and Uribe does help because it gives the Mets a Major League bench. Last but not least, again why would the Yankees go after a starter? Its not really a need, I rather they go for another bullpen arm or a Martin Prado that could help at 2nd. With all that said, watch the Yankees go and get Hamels now.
Yup I think the Jays have another move coming, maybe they get Hamels. The Mets need another bat to complete things, I think Parra is who they end up adding. I think the Yanks don't need another starter if they just want to win the division but if they want to go far once they get to the playoffs they do. Who knows, maybe they just ad another Martin Prado type or an arm in the bullpen like you said but i just think a starter will be added, a Mike Leake type at least.
Well the deadline came and went, I really like what the Mets did with getting Cespedes and Clippard. I think they would have given up too much for Gomez, so the Cespedes move made more sense. Yankees were pretty quiet, like I thought they would be, with getting Ackley which is a low risk, high reward type of move. Ackley was a 2nd overall pick so the potential is there and maybe a change of scenery will work. Everyone is proclaiming the Blue Jays as the champions of the trade deadline, we'll see about that because you don't play the games on paper. The Jays, giants and Royals gave up a lot to get players so now we'll see if the moves pay off.
Yea it's funny how everything went down for the Mets, talk about ups and downs, 1st I'm excited to get Gomez and than we find out the trade was called off and now I'm not happy, but in the end it all turned out for the better cause Cespedes is the better player and we still have Wheeler and Flores, Sandy did his thing. Really like Cespedes. I was surprised the Yankees did nothing as far as getting a pitcher, especially after the news about Pineda going to the DL. The Yankees have been killing it when it comes to winning games and scoring runs but I think that in the next 2 months their true pitching will show. Like to see the Jays overtake the Yanks but that Jay pitching is weak even with Price.
Well, I really liked what the Mets did, getting Cespedes, Clippard, Uribe and Johnson because they addressed their needs. They didn't get a superstar but they got solid players that'll help and they get to keep Flores and Wheeler. As for the Yankees, I thought that maybe they would add a pitcher, we'll see how it goes over the next few weeks because if it goes bad then I can see them making a move before the August 31 waiver deadline. When you look at the prices that these teams paid to get these players, I'm glad the Yankees didn't do anything. You can't have it both ways, you can't complain that the Yankees don't develop young talent and then complain that they didn't make a move. I can't wait to watch Severino pitch next week and see some of these young players start to crack the lineup.
Maybe the Yankees will start to do things in a way we haven't seen since the early 90's when Steinbrenner was forced out. I will check out Severino. How about them Mets sweeping the Nats? Sydergaard is a beast.
Well the Yankees have been on this path for the last 5 years so, trying to rebuild the farm system. You can't keep going the same way the Yankees have, if you look at MLB today, all the teams (except the Mets) are flushed with cash so developing players is important.
Well lets see if any of these prospects are any good, and if the Yankees are patience enough to let them grow.
I'll believe it when I see it.
You'll believe it when you see it? They've been doing this for the last several years. They really put an emphasis into developing the minors and international. Hopefully we'll start seeing the fruits of that labor really soon.
How about the Mets? 1st place. Said it before, will say it again that is not a team I would want to see in the playoffs. The pen can be a bit suspect but with those 3 starters they can be very dangerous.
Well I'm just saying that the Yankees like to hype their players only to have them traded established players, it didn't happen during the trading deadline this year and I was surprised, so yes maybe you're right about them, but still, when I start seeing those prospects doing it on a major league field, and the Yanks being patience with them that's when I start to believe.
Tomorrow it starts with Severino, maybe he is the real thing and the reason why they didn't went out and get a pitcher.
That's why I was so high on Mets since the start of the season, I believe in that pitching and the talent that was still in the system, and this was before I even saw Syndergaard and Matz pitch, now I saw them and now I'm really high. All so really like the kid Conforto. You said Cespedes is not a real star, I don't know, that guy is a beast. I think all the NL teams are wishing the Mets don't make the playoffs.
The Yankees? Every team does that. You act like the Yankees have never done this before, maybe you forgot about the core 4.
The Mets are looking good right now, and would be very dangerous should they make it into the playoffs. I never said Cespedes isn't a real star, I wouldn't put him as a superstar with the Trouts, Harpers, etc...of the world. He's a good, solid player.
The 4 core? that was like 20 years ago and we all know why that even materialized. Like I said, I believe it when I see it, and it starts tomorrow. Look at it this way, when was the last time the Yankees had someone in their system with all the hype that was brought up to the majors and stayed?
Cepesdes can field, he can throw, he can run, and has tremendous power, the only difference is that the Trout's and the Harpers are early 20 something new age stars, but talent wise he is just as talented. Well you said the Mets did not get a superstar and I know what you mean, but I think he is.
Yeah the core 4, it was 20 years ago and looked how well that worked out. Yeah they got away from that and trying to get back to it. When was the last time a player came up? You forgot about All Star Pitcher Delin Betances and All Star Outfielder Brett Gardner. Robinson CAno was another one. I'm fine with the Yankees getting younger with homegrown talent because I know that they'll go out and spend the money to surround them with good players.
Well I meant someone who came up with the hype, Betances, Cano and Gardener all came up with no fan fare and became real players, I'm talking about guys like Montero and the other catcher, guys who were just hyped up and became trade bait.
This is the 1st time in a while that you here the names of Severino's, Refsnyder and Judge as can't miss type prospects that they didn't trade away. Hey It's always better to have homegrown talent that can play.
Will be scouting Severino tomorrow.
Damm fucking Yankees be like playing softball these days, that Boston pitching is a joke.
I remember when Cano came up it was a big deal and Betances we have been hearing about for a few years already. Looking forward to watching Severino tonight. As for the Sox, yeah that's what happens when you go into the season with 5 number 4's.
You need a new post. I was looking at the Mets schedule...Wow...if they don't win the division I would be SHOCKED.
Maybe it was me but I don't recall Cano or Betances as bigtime prospects, not like these guys now.
Aiight might have to get a new post, thread getting long.
Yea I read an article that said that the Mets have the weakest schedule in baseball, then I saw the Nats and believe me it looked the same. I don't put too much stock into that cause you still have to win the games and at the end everything evens out. Remember how the Mets opened up the 2nd half? The last 3 games of the season is with the Nats, thankfully its at home.
