It started off good for the NY Mets who had a slim 1-0 lead and their ace on the mound looking in control as they looked to get the World Series even, unfortunately for the Mets it's not how you start but how you finish and at the end of game 2 it was a one-sided affair as the Kansas City Royals had handed the Mets a royal beating.
Jacob deGrom was cruising along until he had reached the 5th, the Mets still had a 1-0 lead but it quickly turned. It did not help that an error by Lucas Duda had opened up the inning but Jacob deGrom is one that does not let errors effect him, he is one that I seen many times before pick up his teammates but on this important night the expected did not happen.
The Royals went on the attack and they were relentless, it was single after single and all those singles just kept pilling up. By the time the inning was over the Kansas City Royals had finished their batting practice on deGrom and 4 runs had come across.
It was 4 to 1 and once again the Royals had shocked the Mets just like in game 1 when Alex Gordon did it to Familia. It was over as the Mets could not mount any kind of threat Johnny Cueto who I expected the Mets to score on. On this night Johnny Cueto was on and the Mets had nothing on him.
They could not figure him out and soon it was over, a complete game as the Mets had fallen into a 0-2 hole.
The Mets do get to come back home and hopefully they can feed off the home fans but right now the confidence has taken a hit.
Right now it has been a one-sided series with the way the Royals seem to go about their business and win games, the Mets have that look of being their for the 1st time while the Royals look like the team that just missed out last year and knows what it has to do to get over the hump.
It's only 2 games but it's not over, the good thing is that the Mets get to take a much needed day off and reflex at the task in hand. It won't be easy to come from 0-2 but it's not like it's never been done.

Not what I was expecting last night from the Mets, the Royals when they're on are relentless they just keeping coming at you and they don't seem intimidated by any situation. Cueto going the distance was really big for KC, giving the pen an extra day of rest. I still think the Mets will bounce back and get into this series, like you said its not like its never been done before.
Here's a message from the late great Rowdy Roddy Piper

Yea I thought it would a game but it turned out to be no match, the numbers don't lie and the Royals got something with that whole contact thing, they don't swing a miss much. Cueto going the distance was a surprise considering his struggles. Obviously the Mets have to win tomorrow or it just a matter of time.
Wow that got me bumped! obviously that's from 1986 and the Mets came back, didn't know Rowdy Piper was a Mets fan.
Well its not a series until the home team loses, if the Mets take care of business in Queens they'll be fine, I think they get into the Royals heads. We'll see what happens.
