Lets start with the NY Yankees who for the 2nd straight week go 5-2, this time on the road where they finished off the week by sweeping their 4 games series vs the Oakland A's.
The week didn't get off to a good start as the Yankees lost their 1st 2 games in Arizona as things were looking grim to begin the week, but they got it together and won the next 5 and save face. In those 5 wins the Yankees were able to get good pitching from each of their current starting 5 starters, Nathan Evoldi got things started then it was Ivan Nova who filled in nicely for Luis Severino, next in line was C.C. Sabathia who was then followed by Masahiro Tanaka who continues to keep things in order and then it was Michael Pineda who picked himself up after a stinker in Arizona to cap off the week and make it 5 straight.
With the impressive play the Yankees now find themselves only 1 game away from the 500 mark as they have pulled themselves out of the cellar as that spot now belongs to the Toronto Blue Jays who so far have underperformed.
Yes the NY Yankees have quickly turned things around and the vibe has turned positive in the Yankee universe. I have to say I didn't think they would had made such a quick turn around but here they are today riding a good wave. The Yankees now enjoy a day off on Monday as they get ready to host those last place Blue Jays who come in looking to put the Yankees back in last place. This should be an exciting series to keep an eye on but once again the series to watch should be the Mets vs the Nationals as the Mets will look for some revenge in Washington.
We all saw what happened to the Mets in their 1st meeting of the season vs the Nationals, the Mets took the 1st game thanks to Noah Syndergaard who was able to win 2 games this week but Bartolo Colon was no good in game 2 and Matt Harvey laid an egg and lost the rubber game. The good thing is that the Mets were able to take care of business vs the Milwaukee Brewers who came into Citi and got swept as the Mets were able to salvage the week. Now it's back to work on Monday as Colon and Gio Gonzalez match up again to open up the 2nd installment but the big game will be game 2 where Matt Harvey toes the mound vs Stephen Strasburg again as all eyes will be on Matt Harvey. Harvey who had his worst outing in his career cannot afford another beating.
Going forward there are some concern for the Mets as Lucas Dudas who's been dealing with some back issues may now be heading to the DL. The Mets already have Travis d'Arnuad and Wilmer Flores on the DL but Flores should be back this week. The Mets got some big HR's this week by Yeonis Cespedes and Michael Conforto and the Captain who' been struggling all season was able to deliver a game winner. The Mets bullpen was good again and so far they have the best bullpen ERA in baseball.
Now back to the Yankees, now I'm not going to come in here and say I watch every inning of every Yankee game but the one who has been the most productive has been Carlos Beltran who I seen in the middle of things most of the time. Guys like Aaron Hicks have played better, so has Jacoby Ellsbury, but Yankee fans are still waiting for Mark Teixiera to get things going. The backend of the Yankee bullpen did their thing and the starters put in a positive week, but here come the Blue Jays lineup so things will get a little harder for the starters.
The Yankees go back on the road to face the TB Rays after their series with the Blue Jays and the Mets come back home to take on the LA Dodgers. So there you have it, the Yanks get themselves back in it and the Mets continue to play as advertise.
Man I want one of these uni's

Great weekend for both teams. I didn't get to see any of the Mets but got to see a lot of the Yankees. Beltran came up big over the last few games and Ellsbury and Headley are showing signs of life. The series vs. the Blue Jays should be good, I'm hoping the Yankees can keep it rolling.
As for the Mets, this series is going to be big. I want to see how the Mets bounce back after they got outscored 16-4 in the 3 games at Citi Field last week.
Well that was a nice start for the Mets, big HR for Wright and Cespedes continues to go deep. Did you pick Cespedes on your HR Derby?
Yeah, nice start for the Mets, tonight's game should be good with Harvey looking for redemption. Sadly, I did not take Cespedes on my team, I got scared off by Citi Field.
Yup big game for Harvey, really looking forward to seeing how he comes out tonight.
Really? Man I thought you would had taken Cespedes considering what he did last year and knowing that he is kind of on a 1 year deal looking to prove himself again.
Yeah in hindsight I should have taken Cespedes.
So I've heard and read this about the Mets and what to do about 1st base now that Duda is going to be out for a while; move Conforto to 1st and have Lagares play every day in the OF. I haven't seen much of the Mets but Conforto doesn't look like a good defensive outfielder so that move looks to make sense at least on paper. What say you?
Oh yea, to me it makes a lot of sense to move Conforto over to 1B because to me he seems to be some what of an iron glove in the OF, he makes me a bit nervous, so if Conforto can make the move and you can put Lagares glove in CF it's a good move as it makes us better up the middle. That is the option I like to see the Mets make and I think that's exactly where they will go.
Didn't get to see any of the Mets game but 5 IP, 5 ER, 1K and 3 HR's is not good.
Good win for the Yankees last night, Eovaldi has been really good and the pen was great, holding the Jays lineup to 0 runs and 2 hits. Hope they can keep it rolling tonight.
Yea it's back to the drawing board for Mr. Harvey, this is getting out of control, the stats say that after the 3rd inning things get ugly and it did again. The Yankees keep it going and get to 500, didn't think that was going to be possible especially so soon. The Blue Jays along with the Astros are really underperforming.
Hey switching things over to the NBA, whats up with the Warriors? OKC might get that title.
I really think the thing w/Harvey is the innings pitched last year. He pitched a lot of really high stress innings last year to help the Mets get to the Series and its showing itself now. I think he'll be ok, just have to ride this out.
Really impressed with how the Yankees have battled back to get 500
I'm rooting for the Thunder, the bandwagon out here for the Warriors is crazy. I'd like to see the Cavs win because Cleveland is such a sad sack city, they need a championship.
I don't believe that's the problem, I understand he pitched a lot of innings coming off TJ, the most of any pitcher coming off TJ, but the guy had an entire off season and the way I see it that should had been plenty of time to rest the arm. Well see, I hope he turns it around so we can trade him and get something.
Nice win thanks to Matz getting the job done and taking the series, Yanks got win streak snapped so a good night for me.
Really? I thought you like the Warriors, I understand Cleveland hasn't won anything in eons but I don't like Lebron, If it's the Thunder vs the Cavs I'm rooting for the Thunder even though I dislike Westbrook as well, but like Durant.
A lot of people compare it to Strausburg who struggled for a bit last year and then went on the DL and then came back and bounced back nicely. I see it this way, its not only the amount of innings he threw, he pitched in the most stressful situations so that type of stuff takes it toll. I still think he'll be ok.
Yeah, the Yankees were due for a loss. Hope they bounce back tonight and take the series.
I did like the Warriors but this year they've had this attitude about them, I guess winning 73 games does that but they need a bit of an attitude adjustment. I like Durant but don't care for Westbrook...dude be carrying on before the game like its freaking Dance Fever. I know what you mean about Lebron, not rooting for him but would like to see Cleveland finally get one.
Matt Harvey will be fine, maybe not this year, right now he is the 5th starter, last year it was him and deGrom as the 1,2 and this year it looks like Noah and Matz have taken over as the 1, 2 The Mets are lucky they have options, but not Harvey who right is seen as whatever get rid of him. I do see the comparison between Strasburg and Harvey.
Well like you said, when you win a record 73 games you're attitude is gonna get bigger, I think that's only natural, the Warriors don't rub me the wrong way, they seem like a cool bunch. Who's attitude don't you like? Westbrook,.. yea that's a me 1st type of guy.
Is Harvey going to make his next start? Or are they going to skip him? The Mets are in a good position because they have guys like Noah and Matz that can step up.
Mets-Dodgers this weekend. Go Dodgers!
They are not skipping him, Harvey is schedule to make his next start vs Chris Sale and the White Sox. How the mighty have fallen, Harvey is essentially a 5th starter right now. Yup Mets and Dodgers, was hoping we miss Kershaw but we got him on Sunday night baseball, that guy is the modern day Sandy Koufax.
Dodgers just called up Urias who is going to start tonight for them, the kid is supposed to be really good. I'm going to see the Dodgers AAA team tomorrow and I was hoping to see him pitch but I guess not. Should be a good series. Want to see what the reaction will be to Utley tonight.
Not a good start for the kid, Urias, he kept getting annoyed when he wasan't getting pitches called for strikes that he probably got in the minors. Utley spoiled deGrom effort as Familia blew it, lucky Granderson picked him up.
AROD picked up the Yanks.
Looks like the Mets are not going to try Conforto at 1st and instead are going to look outside the organization, they been scouting James Looney in the minors and I would not mind him filling in. For some reason I can see Looney fitting right in with these Mets.
