So I start this week report with the NY Mets who went 3-3 making it back to back 3-3 weeks. For the past 2 weeks the Mets have been hanging around the 500 mark and the injuries continue to keep piling up. This week it was David Wright's turn to join the list of the wounded and to me this may be the best thing for the NY Mets. We already know what it takes for the captain to get ready before a game, and all that messing around for a guy that is half the player he use to be is setting the Mets back. I think this is a blessing, give the job to Wilmer Flores he can't be any worst.
With that being said, the Mets now have Lucas Duda, Travis d'Arnaud, and now Wright on the DL, that's 3 major parts of the Mets offense, that is why the offense continues to be at the very bottom, on top of that Michael Conforto has been on a major slump for what seems like a month so the Mets are scrapping. Lucky for them the pitching has been good and they got a boost this week from Matt Harvey who gave them 2 solid starts. Unfortunately for Harvey he ran into Jose Fernandez who yesterday went 7 innings striking out 14 Mets, Fernandez was just filthy. Harvey also went 7 innings allowing just 1 run but Fernandez came out on top to beat the Mets 1-0 as the Marlins avoid the sweep.
All in all it was a good week because the Dark Knight seems to be coming out of his funk and that means the pitching just got better. One guy who I want to give props to is the veteran catcher Rene Rivera, WOW that guy can catch and throw, it's like night and day when he is behind the plate. He's not much with the bat but defensively he's like having Yadier Molina especially when you compare him with d'Arnaud, and Kevin Plawecki who I'm beginning to think won't be much but a backup catcher when it is all said in done. I thought Plawecki could hit but he hasn't shown much and it's not like he hasn't had the chances cause Plawecki has had plenty of opportunities. Another one who is losing my fate is Hansel Robles, Robles has given up 4 HR's in a span of 10 games and every time he is out there in a tight situation I cringe, time for Robles to only come into games where the Mets are up by a lot or getting blown.
Other concerns for the Mets at the moment is Yeonis Cespedes who's been dealing with some leg issues and now Juan Lagares who is day to day. Right now the Mets lineup is rag tag.
Now on to the NY Yankees who this week took what seems like 3 steps back, They had a real tough week at 2-5. 1st it was the Toronto Blue Jays who swept the Yanks in Toronto as the Yankees could only muster 3 runs in the 3 games. Then it was off to Detroit to play 1 in a game in which the Yankees led 5-1 going into the 7th with the 3 headed monsters ready in the bullpen, things looked in the bag but this one was one that Yankees fans had to sweat out when Dellin Betances, Andrew Miller and Aroldis Chapman each allowed 1 run. Things didn't looked so good in the 9th when the Tigers loaded the bases with no outs down 5-3 vs Chapman as the Yankees looked down on the ropes, the next batter was JD Martinez who Chapman got to hit a hard grounder that 1st looked like a hit up the middle but Didi Gregorious snagged it and turned it into a double play. It was now 5-4 Yanks but Chapman now had to deal with Miguel Cabrerra who surprisingly was pitched too, Chapman got Migi to hit into a weak grounder to end the game and the Yankees survived.
After the nail bitter the Yankees moved on to Baltimore for 3 more, Nathan Eovaldi pitched the 1st game and gave the Yanks 5 plus of 1 run as the Yanks led it 5-2 in the 6th but the bullpen blew this one as Dellin Betances took the lost.
The Yankees did come back to win game 2 but with a 7-0 lead going into the 7th you would think this was a day that the 3 headed monsters were going to get the day off but the Orioles would score 6 in that 7th and Andrew Miller and Aroldis Chapman had to come in and get the final 9 outs.
Then there was yesterday's game... look I always leave WFAN on in my apartment all day and after the Mets had just lost their game to Jose Fernandez and the Marlins-I went out for my usual bike ride and when I came back at around 6, I was surprised to here John Sterling annoying voice still calling the game- at 1st I thought well the Yankees went into extra innings but I had just came back just in time to here Zach Britten get the final out as I later find out that after an hour rain delay, with the Yankees up 1-0, Dellin Betances and Aroldis Chapman gave up 3 runs in the 8th as the Yankees lost the game and the series.
Yes it was not a good showing for the Yankees and the 3 headed monster as the Yankees finish their 10 game road trip at 4-6. Not much to say after that.
This week the Mets play 7 games on the road, 1st in Pittsburgh for 3 and 4 more in Milwaukee. Tonight the Mets face a familiar face in Jonathan Niese who takes on fellow lefty Steven Matz. Neil Walker who the Mets traded for Niese also gets to come back home. As for the Yankees they also have 7 games on the schedule as they get to come back home for 4 with the LA Angels and 3 more with the Tigers.

Not a good week for my Yankees. They get some great starting pitching and then the offense lets them down, then they finally hit but then the bullpen lets them down. They can't seem to get all their ducks in a row so that part of it has been very frustrating. Then again, I'm not expecting much from this team in 2016 and 2017.
As for the Mets, the injuries that are piling up are starting to take it's toll. I wonder what kind of moves the Mets will make next month if this continues and if they try and strike gold again like they did last year with Cespedes.
The Yankees need to start planning on trading 2 pieces of the 3 headed monsters, time to get some chips, time to get ready to trade guys like Beltran who lucky for them is having a nice year, Brain McCann and Brett Gardner. Time to get whatever you can from these guys and time to bring up the Aaron Judge, Gary Sanchez and Luis Severino. Time to stop the BS, time to lose and learn and see what you have.
The injuries is a concern but as long as the starting pitching stays intact they will be all right. They just can't afford to lose Cespedes and Familia. The way I see it James Loney will be find covering up for Duda, Flores will be fine filling in for Wright and Rene Rivera in for dArnaud I'm cool with that. Unless another guy goes down-like Walker or Cabrerra, I don't see the Mets doing any moves until the trading deadline where they will make a few moves to bolster the roster.
Well, for the Yankees these next 2 weeks will go a long way in determining what they do as they're playing teams that are all under .500. Now even if the Yankees get fat on this part of the schedule, me personally I would still look to trade Beltran, Miller, Chapman, Gardner and whoever else I can but if they're still in the mix then I can see them standing pat. I don't think this team has a realistic chance of winning in October. Now, can they sneak into the playoffs? I think so but I couldn't see them doing much if they did. They messed up with not trading away Cano when they had the chance, I hope they don't make the same mistake again.
Yea that's the thing with the Yankees, if they start winning some games and start getting fat they will stand pat, if I were still a Yankee fan I'd be wishing for them to fall flat and lose like crazy so that this does not happen. Yea the thing with Cano was the same thing the Mets did with Reyes.
Just saw Beltran went deep for his 15. Mets lose game 1 need to win game 2, can't lose 2 in 1 day.
I would hope that the Yankees would know that its in their best interest to start trading away, not that I would do it right now but in July.
Not a good day for your Mets last night, lost 2 games and the Nats won.
So heard a very interesting stat today, since May 1st the Yankees are 21-15, the Mets are 17-19. Also, I didn't realize one of the pitchers the Mets gave up for Cespedes is Michael Fulmer, that guy has been great thus far.
Didn't realize that stat, interesting, doesn't seem that the Yankees have been playing that good for over a month.
Yea I been following that guy Fulmer, so far he's been great, he's a big dude, glad he's seems to be the goods.
I was shocked when I heard that as well. Also, didn't realize the Mets were under .500 in that span as well.
