Mets keep finding new ways
With the Mets riding a 4 game losing streak, the Amazings sent out their ACE Johan Santana in the hopes that the lefty can turn things around if only for one night. But what the Mets got last night from Santana was another sub par performance and a meltdown from Johan as the Mets continue with their losing ways. It all took place in the 4th inning when the at the time the Mets were winning 2-1, with one man out in the inning Johan would then walk the opposing pitcher on 4 straight pitches, what happened next was like watching the 1962 Mets, up next was Cory Hart to bat as Hart would hit one sky high to deep center where Fernando Martinez was to camp under, as Martinez made his way to catch the ball he would stumble and would then fall on his face as the ball dropped in for a double, Martinez seemingly embarrass must had notice Santana frown as his displeasure was evident on his face as now he had a 2nd and 3rd situation with 1 out, he was not happy and it showed, unlike Santana he then walked JJ Hardy to load up the bases as Santana was now losing control of the game, up came Ryan Braun who quickly fell behind Santana 0-2 to put himself in the hole, Keith Hernandez on SNY was saying that this next pitch should be a purpose pitch to set up Braun and should not be a strike, but on the very next pitch Braun drilled Santana's offering over the head of the LF Garry Sheffield, Sheff then relayed the ball towards home as two runs had already come in, the 3rd runner Hart was now rounding 3rd and coming home for a play at the plate, ball would get pass the catcher Omir Santos as the run would score, Santana who was retrieving the ball then see's Braun had made a wide turn at 3rd then fires to David Wright to try and cut Braun napping, but Santana airmails the ball back to Sheffield left as Braun came trotting home for the 4th run. Amazing! The Brewers took a 5-2 lead and that was all she wrote, this has been the blueprint. It was clear that Santana was feeling the heat to stop the bleeding, before the game all the praises were given to him by Gary Cohen and Keith Hernandez on the pregame show on SNY, it was all about on how this is why you have an ACE like Santana in these situations, to hault the losing streak, but what we saw last night from Santana was a guy who is beginning to get tired of all the losing that has become the culture around the Mets ballclub. In the dogout after the inning had ended, Santana was seen yelling as several playrs around him looked the other way trying to downplay the situation, for the 1st time as a Met Santana had lost it and it was not a good thing to see from your ACE. The Mets would go on to lose the game 6-3, Fernando Martinez the 20 year old would go on to hit his 1st career homerun in the 9th, but it will be the play in the 4th inning that he would remember the most on this night.
