Francisco Rodriguez who has been blown a few games of lately got back on track last night when he came in for the save up 4-2. K-ROD found himself in a tight situation when Shane Victorino got on on a swinging bunt as the Phils were now were theathening with their big guns Chase Utley and Ryan Howard in the wings. This time K-ROD would gather himself in dominaite fashion as he struckout both Phillies sluggers on wicked changeups to give the Mets a feel good victory while beating Cole Hamels in the process. Things got a little heated in this one as Jerry Manuel got thrown out for arguing a missed call at 2nd, and Mike Pelphey was hit high and hard by Hamels who then had a stare down and a few choice words for the Phillie's lefty as the umpires quickly stepped in before anything got out of control. Jeff Francouer continued his impressive play with the Mets as he collected 3 hits including a homerun to lead the Mets offensively for the 4-2 win. Pedro Martinez was back in the park and will pitch this sunday for the 1st time in CitiField infront of the Mets fans who mostly likely will give him a nice welcome, we will see. The Mets played with passion dispite being out of contention, but as always whenever they see Phillie's red or when the Phillies see Mets orange and blue the games seem to matter.
In other Mets news, Billy Wagner who made his season debut on Friday by striking out 2 Braves including Chipper Jones with a 96mph heater was enough for the Boston Redsox to try and claim the hard throwing lefty off waivers as the Mets now have 3 days to work out a trade or deal. Once Wagner got close on making his comeback the talk has been that the Mets would use his comeback as a showcase to try and move Wagner and save some money in the process, I just didn't think it would happen this fast. If the Sox's get Wagner it would seem like a perfect fit for Wagner to go to Boston, I originally had him going to the Yankees but it looks like Boston want the lefty more and will make Wagner their lefty specialist and if Wagner is able to stay on course and get back to form it could be a big pickup for the team looking to make the playoffs.
Also last night, Gary Sheffield got back to playing ball again for the Mets after taking the day off vs the Braves when he learned that he too was being claimed by the SF Giants but was then quickly pulled back by Omar as Sheff then used this to asked for an extension as Omar replied with a quick not right now. Sheff not happy with the reply then took the day off and used it to gathered himself as he went on to say that his mind was just distracted for a minute and just wants to get back to playing ball. Personally if I was Omar I would had let Sheff go, who to my surprise this season has been nothing but a good teammate until this, I just don't think he is in the Mets plans for next season, but that's just my opinion.
In the beginning of the season when it was announced that the Mets had picked up Sheff I was really not for it, I said this guy is a trouble maker where ever he goes but then the Mets got him on the cheaps and I said oh well, if Sheff does not work out we can simply release him. But now it is late August and here is Sheff still on the team and surprisingly playing well and when you see him the guy seem to be enjoying his time here with the Met, who would had thought.

Saw the play that Manuel was arguing about and man did that umpire blow that call, I mean it wasn't even close. I told you that Franceour would be a good pick up for the Mets.
Really don't get the whole Sheff thing, if you're the Mets why would you keep this guy? He's obviously not in your plans to come back next season and you could have at least gotten something for him, another head scratcher from the Mets.
Oh, one other thing on Manuel. Did you hear what he said about Church? He quickly apologized for it but you can read between the lines and see what he really meant. Its easy to see why he's so disliked when he acts like that.
Oh I knew Francouer was going to be a good move by Omar, the guy loves it here and he plays hella hard, I want Francouer as my right field for years to come.
As far the Sheff thing goes, I already said that I would had let him walk, but I guess Omar has plans to bring him back next year, I mean he has been good for us, smiling and actualy playing hard to my surprise, but I just think he was doing all that so that he can get that extension we wants for next year. Now if Omar lets him walk next season then it is a head scratcher, but if he brings him back then we all know why he did not let him go to the Giants.
I did not see that part with Manuel apoligizing for Church, It's no secret that these too didn't like each other but the rest of the team sure seems to like Manuel ways, you just can't make all 25 guys happy, some are going to be bad apples and so you trade them for someone who hopefully is going to be better and it seems like that's what happening here.
