The Yankees won another series vs Boston last night when they pounded Red Sox ace Josh Beckett on Sunday Night Baseball for 8 runs in 8 innings of work as they took the righty deep several times in the process for the 8-4 victory. Along the way Yankees starter CC Sabathia became the majors 1st 15 game winner going 6 plus but it was the constant flow of homers that won the game for the Yanks, 1st it was Derek Jeter who on the very 1st pitch took Beckett deep for the 1st blow, then homers from A-ROD, Robinson Cano, and 2 more from Hideki Matsui were part of the Yankees 10 hits in the game off Beckett who was taken deep 5 times in this one. They say pitching wins games but not on this night as the Yankees bats bounced back from the 14-1 defeat they took on the previous night when it was Boston bats who came alive for their only win in the series. Boston is still a full game ahead of Texas in the WC race and 3 full games of Tampa, but with the lost the Sox's must forget of ever catching the Yankees who go back up 7 and half games.

The Yanks are definitely in the drivers seat heading into Sep 1st next Tuesday whenthe rosters are going to expand. I guess it will be a fight to the finish with the Angels to see who can get the best record and home field. It should be interesting to see how Girardi will play this hand.
They are on cruise control, who are you more afraid of facing in the playoffs the Angels or the Sox's, that is if the Sox's make it?
Not afraid, just don't want to see the Angels. The Yanks are better than that team in every facet. Especially pitching and especially this yr but they find ways of winning and that's always terrifying.
Oh, my bad, every facet except running the bases.
The Yankees are better in everything except fundementhals, the Angels know how to play small ball and are better in manufacturing runs, as far as overall talent goes nobody beats the Yankees in that department.
I think you'd be very surprised at how good the Yankees are in producing runs in a pinch (yes, I'm talking about small ball). I know you watch some games and catch the highlights but this years Yankees do what's necessary when it is required. Fundamentals doesn't equal small ball it equals doing everything right. That is what the Yankees do. They make up for their lack of stealing (and they are no slouches at that) with smart baserunning and taking the extra base (i.e. 1st to third).
I am not saying that the Yankees don't play smart ball, I'm talking about stuff like bunting a man over, stuff like taking the extra base 1st to 3rd the Yankees have no problem there, but because they score runs in bunches they really never have to relay on bunting, that's why whenever they are in a tight game with a team like the Angels that is why they lose those kind of games because the Angels do relay and make that a a big part of their offense.
Have you watched the Angels this year? They are a very different team than the ones from a few years ago. They're not a small ball type team, not like they have in years past. I'm just hoping that the Yankees finish 1st and get home field.
Yes, it would be nice to get home field. So if ever the saying about pitching winning championships is true. This year would be it. The Angels pitching staff is nothing to write home about. Especially the bullpen which was always their strong suit.
I really don't know much about the Angels pitching staff except that they lost K-ROD, but isn't it the same core pitching as in the past? or did they lose a key starter or 2, cause all I know is that they still win games.
Yeah, their bullpen is nowhere near the force it used to be. Weaver and Lackey are the best two they have. I think they are throwing out two rookies and Ervin Santana who has an ERA over 6. Weaver is having a very good year. ERA under 4. Lackey had been injured. Lackey is 8-6 with a 4 ERA. Decent but not his typical good numbers. Instead of using pitching and small ball, they are using power to win more and more games. Starting with the surprising year from Abreu (surprising not that he's good but that he's this good). Morales is having an unreal year. Not really sure what is in his kool aid. It didn't hurt to get Guerrero back.
By the way, did you all see about a week and a half ago when Vlad got a basehit off of a ball that bounced in front of the plate. The ball bounced and then he hit it and looped it over the infield.
Talk about free swinger.
Ray, going back to the Chicago talk . . . do you think he juiced? He's always looked the same like Frank Thomas.
I'd say no on Vlad. I dont think he's a juicer. Anyways, as for the Angels Ervin Santana has been pitching really well of late and Weaver is having a good season. Abreu is having a 'contract year' year. Knocking those guys off won't be easy.
Damn Ray, I'm surprised you said that. I will never again under-estimate an appt. I'm not saying that's what you're doing but it sure sounded that way.
that was under-estimate an opponent.
