Good morning, or depending on what side your on, good afternoon, so are we counting the days to opening day? I am, & with just a few short days away, it's getting real. So as I get ready to blow off a bit here, this is what was floating inside me.
I got up this morning feeling bad about the state of the Mets, after staying up past my bedtime listening to Mark Malusis of WFAN, today he had me thinking when he was talking about my Mets while making some good points. He was talking about how once again Ollie Perez was god awful allowing 7 runs in his 3 innings of work yesterday while giving up 3 bombs, he was talking about Mike Pelphey giving up 3 bombs himself in his previous outing while looking awful all spring, he was talking about Johan Santana getting rough up by a Cardinal's AAA squad, as the Met ace topped out at 89mph in what was his last start before opening day, he was talking about how the Mets staff has given up an alarming 30 hr's this spring, most in the majors, and many times he would say pray if your a Mets fan. I mean Ollie P continues to be bad and will go down as Omar Minaya's worst move as a Met, you think Luis Castillo was bad, ssshit!
So what do I say to all that was said by Mr. Malusis? I say it's only spring training, let the real games begin. I mean can't we just be happy that real baseball is just around the corner, do we have to always dig deep every time at all the negatives even in spring training? I know there is alot to be concerned about the Mets right now, but before we get into that, can we at least let it happen? Sure this is probably an indication of what the 2010 season is going to be like, but we can still be optimistic. It does look like were in for another long season cause the starting pitching has been scary so far this spring.
Let's move on to some Yankee stuff who will kick off the 2010 season this Sunday vs their big rivals from Boston, is this to much to soon? MLB wants to begin the season with a bang & what is better then doing it with baseball biggest rivalry.
If you ask me this is to much to soon, I prefer to ease into these intense Boston vs. NY series later into the season, but how do you guys feel about it?
We have the Joba Rules well now he have the Reyes rules, in the same game that Santana got bombed yesterday, Jose Reyes played in his 1st game since his thyroid issues began troubling him, he had 5 at-bats but did not played the field, he was also not allowed to run past 1st base but when he hit one over the center fielder's head, in his very 1st at-bat, he said fuck it & kept on going. Hey I know this is the Mets being cautious with Reyes & really what can the Mets do? if they just let him be then it's the Mets being stupid, if they put on these rules, which I don't like, the Mets will still get ridiculed by people like me who see this as pussyfied, but whatever.
And what about this Yankee pitcher who can throw from either arms? this is interesting, but is he any good?, or is this just another gimmicky Yankee ploy ala Billy Crystal? we saw Mr. Pat Venditte doing his thing yesterday where he pitched 2 innings vs some Bravos minor leaguers, allowing 1 run as the 2 arm specialist threw from both sides while using a special glove that he can easily switch from hand to hand. They say he throws harder from the right side but I don't think he threw anything past 89mph. If I had to make a bet I say this Venditte guy will never see the big show, but that's just me saying it.

I tend not to really pay attention to spring training, other than the young guys no one really takes it seriously. Starting Sunday I'll start to pay attention.
The Mets better hope that Perez has a good year, I've said it before he is the most important player right now on that team.
The Yankees and Red Sox have to play each other 19 times, might as well start it off with a bang. They've opened against each other a few times the last 5-6 years. I don't see it as a big deal.
I don't know too much about this pitcher, if he has the goods he'll make it to the show. One last thing, the Yankees don't need any stinking gimmicks. You know what gimmick they use? WINNING CHAMPIONSHIPS!!! Of course the Mets wouldn't know thing 1 about that. They'll stick to there 75 uniforms and horrible play. You like talking about Billy Crystal having an at bat in an early spring training game but yet you fail to mention the precursor to this, Garth Brooks in spring training with the Mets.
Anyways, enough of this. Lets get to season previews and predictions.
You got mine so feel free to post it.
I here ya, Sunday it begins for reals, so your saying that Perez is the most important guy on the Mets? I'm saying it right now, Perez will not be shit, he will bomb once again and the Mets will come up with some kind of an injury by the end of May for him so that they can put this guy to sleep for the rest of the year, you can’t count on Perez, classic case of getting the money & now too much pressure for the guy to deliver.
The Yanks and Sox's opening up is not a big deal, like you said, it has happened before, I just think I rather take it slow instead up opening up gunz blazing to start off the 162 game season.
Garth Brook, yea you got me with that one, but when was that? The Yankees need gimmicks, in spring training games, cause that pitcher smells like pure gimmicks if you ask me, the last time a pitcher used his 2 arms was Jim Abbot, but he still used one arm to threw & make his pitches.
