The Animal finishes off comeback for the Mets

Last night I got home to catch the rest of the Mets game & when I turned on the TV they were already down 6-1. Jonathan Niese was having another off night, & offensively the Mets were sputtering as usual. It looked like those Nationals were about to go up 2-0 in this series at Citi & jump on the Mets in the standings by 2 full games, but in the end the surprising Nationals were sent back down to earth as the Mets for once did some hitting with RISP. It was in the 8th where the Mets began their comeback with the score at the time 6-2 Nationals, in the previous inning the Mets had the 1st 2 guys on but failed to get any runs across, they were now 2 for 12 in this game with RISP, & are currently 28th in the majors in that department. Once again things were looking bleak until we got to the 8th & it was showtime.

The Mets would get things started with consecutive hits by Bay, a single, and Wright a double, Ike Davis then got on when Nationals SS Ian Desmond muffed one up for an error as Bay scored to make it a 6-3. With runners now on 1st & 3rd & no outs, Francouer would then strike out for the 1st out, up next was Rod Barajas who this season has been the Met with the most big hits, he was not going to disappoint & in this at-bat Barajas took Tyler Clippard deep but off the wall for a double to drive in 2 more runs & make it 6-5, Up next it was Alex Cora who then surprised everyone by laying down a perfect bunt to make it 1st & 3rd still only one out. Angel Pagan then stepped in & he would deliver a single to tie the game at 6 a piece as we now had a new ball game. Now it was time for a bigger hit but could the Mets come back all the way & deliver the final blow? This team which has failed miserably in the clutch now had a bunch of big hits in 1 inning but they still needed 1 more big hit. If it was going to happen it would have to come from the newest Mets who was ready to take his 1st licks as a Mets, they call him the Animal & his name is Chris Carter, with Miguel Batista now in the game Carter would deliver a double as the Animal now had a new home, the Mets take the lead & come back all the way. To top off the comeback K-ROD came in for the 9th with the Mets NOW up 8-6, & to my surprise he got a 1, 2, 3 to close the door, no nervous endings here. The last out was officially recorded when Ike Davis would go over the railing once again for his trademark move to end the game as K-ROD was then seen smiling & shaking his head cause he had to remember the last time he saw this happening, It was on Friday when K-ROD came in that game for the save

& it was IKE who saved his ass to get out of the inning an inning in which K-ROD had just blown the save & the SF Giants now had the go ahead run on 3rd with 2 outs, this is when IKE had repeated this feat for the 2nd time, at the time, to send the game to the 9th, a game that Barajas would eventually win in the bottom of the inning with his walkoff HR, this would be the 3rd time big IKE had gone over the railing in identical fashion, AMAZING!

The Mets needed this one & with the win they are now tied for 2nd with the Nationals with identical records as Mike Pelphey will now take the ball this afternoon looking to take the rubber game.

Game notes:
In that big inning Ike Davis had just missed a grand salami as instant reply was needed to complete the call which was called foul.

Also before the game the Mets said goodbye to Frank Cattalanoto who did not cut it as the Mets top pinch hitter off the bench. This role will now be Chris Carter's to lose as the Mets continue to shake the roster up looking for the right players to mold this team together.
