It was back down to earth for the NY Mets who were flying high 2 days ago, this after suffering a devastating defeat last night to their NL East rivals on National TV, and it was for all to see as Mets ace Johan Santana with a chance to win the series instead imploded on the mound to the tune of 10 runs in 3 innings.
It was a Oliver Perez type of performance by the $20 million dollar Ace who walked 47 year old opposing pitcher Jamie Moyer with the bases loaded & 2 outs which then led to a fucking Shane Victorino bases loaded jack. Game over right there, no way were the Mets coming back from this horror scene. Oh and I hate Shane Victorino like the Phillie's fans hate Jose Reyes, yes more then Jimmy Rollins. If you thought that was it you were wrong as a few batters later it was Chase Utley turn to go deep on Santana, this time with Placido Polanco on base, the same Polanco who had also homered early in the game off the Lefty. When Jerry Manuel came out to relive his ace the score was 10-5 in the 4th inning, 4 HR's were hit, a horrific outing for the former 2 time Cy Young winner who Met fans expected more from. This was the worst game for Santana as a Met since the NY Yankees pounded him last year in similar fashion, only this was worst. The Mets bats did their part but the Phillies could hit like the Yankees & on this night Santana could not pitch like Santana.
And that dinky place they call Citizen Bank Park, I hate it, you always had the feeling that anyone on the Phillies was going to take you deep, you better hit the corners, no mistakes in this ballpark. This is how it must feel when your a AL team & you have to face a team like the NY Yankees especially in that park, & your pitching sucks, on this night our ace sucked & the Phillies were going deep wiffle ball style but like on the 3rd floor, if you know what I mean.
The Mets will need to move on & forget because the Phillies are now back in 1st place, hopefully they can get back to playing that confident ball because this game may have shook them a bit. When you see your main man take a beating on National TV you would think a little confident has to go too. The Mets had a 4-2 week and that may sound like a good week but it was mission incomplete. The 4-2 week now feels like 2-4.
And now for some Yankee news, they also had a 4-2 week & are currently in 2nd, but they also have some issues to think about. They have a Ollie Perez of their own in Javier Vasquez who on Saturday at the new stadium, again was no good. The boo birds were not having it because on this day they had to sit through a 5 hour game only to come out of it with a lost & Javier Vasquez on their minds. Poor guy can't seem to get it together and he better get it soon cause Yankees fans will not be patience.
The good thing is that the Yankees were 15-7 in the 1st month of April while playing only 8 games at home. Also it is now the month of May so Mark Texiera is already hitting, weird. The other problem other then Javier Vasquez is that the Yankees also suffered a setback when CF Curtis Granderson was put into the 15 day DL after sufferings problems in his left groin, OUCH. The Yanks will now look for Randy Winn who so far has seldom been used, & Marcus Thames to step right in in Granderson's absents who most likely will be out a month.
And what can you say about Robinson Cano, so far it's been an evolution for Cano raising his game to the tune to be considered as the best 2nd basemen in the game, come to think of it, only he and Chase Utley can be consider numero uno at that position IMO. For the 2nd straight week I have to give the Yankee's player of the week honors too DONT YOU KNOW CANO for belting 4 homers & for staying consistence for 2 straight weeks.
I will leave it at that & get back on the rebound, my head hurts.
