But this is the new NY Mets, and last night they busted out the aluminium bats and started playing softball baseball vs Phillies starter Adam Morgan.
7 different Mets went deep last night to set a new club record with 8 HR's in a game.
The 1st by David Wright who in his 1st at bat since April, and with the Mets already down 3-0, Captain America set the tune with an the upper deck blast! a real eye opener, like guys I'm back!
Juan Lagares, Wilmer Flores and Travis dArnaud all followed Wright with homers and the Mets were quickly back in it with the Phillies still up 7-5 in the 4th.
By the 5th inning the Mets took hold of the game for good, when with 2 on and 1 out, Wilmer Flores went deep again to give the Mets an 8-7, another tape measure blast, now in control.
The Mets were playing softball in Citizen bank park where the balls fly but these were not of the cheap variety, these were some bombs! It was as if the Mets had turned into the Toronto Blue Jays.

The club record breaker came in the 9th, this time it was Yeonis Cepedes who joined the HR party with another lazer, deep off the facade of the 2nd deck.
Final score 16-7
Right now I am on cloud 9 with the way my team is beating up on these bad teams, but this is what championship teams are supposed to do. With 38 more games to go the NY Mets look in control.

What can I say about Nathan Eovaldi?
Earlier this year when the Yankees where contemplating on who to send to the bullpen between Eovaldi and Adam Warren, I had said that Nathan Eovaldi would had been my pick to send to the bullpen.
I was wrong.
Last night he was great, 8 innings, 4 hits, and 7K's, lowering his ERA to 4.00. This is not the same guy from earlier in the season, you can see the newfound confident, Nathan Eovaldi is going to get it done. He has evolved, it's like night and day.
Like in the 8th inning last night...with the game still in the balance, still scoreless, Eovaldi had a runner on 2nd after the 20th error by Chase Headley and 1 out, he got Cody Rasmus for the 2nd out, then blew 2 100mph fastball by Carlos Gomez to get ahead, and finally got him to fly out for the 3rd out.
Nathan Eovaldi had picked up Chase Headley and the Yankees.
But the Yankees bats were once again silent...still trying to find it and on this night Astro starting pitcher Scott Feldman was just as good as Eovaldi with 8 innings of his own.
But by the 9th the Astros had replace Feldman after 110 pitches and they made the mistake to bring in Ollie Perez. Mets fan have a lot of memories of Ollie Perez and this is exactly how we remember the great Ollie, walking 3 in the inning and no outs, it was over.
Carlos Beltran got it done and the Yankees had squeezed one for the win to beat the 1st place Astros.
Yankees WIN 1-0!
Back in a 1st place tie with them Blue Jays.
The race is on and last night Nathan Eovaldi saved the Yankees.

Like I've been saying the NL East is the Mets' to lose. The pitching is too good, their remaining schedule is too weak and the Nationals aren't as good as people thought. There are a few thing red flags that would concern me if I'm a Mets fan:
1. The bullpen - Other than Familia and Clippard, the pickings are slim so its something that can come back to bite them.
2. Vs. Better Competition - The Mets are doing what they're supposed to, beating up on the weak teams but when they play the better teams they can't seem to beat those teams like the Cubs, Cardinals, Pirates, Dodgers and Giants. The Mets this year vs. those 5 potential playoff teams are 10-23. Grant it most of this was pre-trade deadline but there recent sweep at the hands of the Pirates at Citi Field does raise some questions.
I've said it before and I'll say it again that the Mets are not a team that I would want to face in the playoffs because of the pitching that they can throw it at you so it's going to be interesting to see what they can do.
As for the Yankees, they took on in chin today but everyone takes a beating sometime. Looks like the AL East is going to be a dogfight over the month of September.
It's an exciting time for baseball in NYC, its so much better when both teams are in the thick of it. These next 5 weeks should be a lot of fun.
I think your pretty much on it with the Mets, the Mets are playing on another level, I guess your right about the Nationals, this year they a'rent as good, and I been saying for most of the year more bullpen, a lefty!, like you said who can you trust other than Clippard and Familia? I like Robles as well but that's it.
As far the competition I know the Mets haven't played well with those 5 teams but since the trade this is a different team.
The Mets in the playoffs, that I want to see. This team has something, I like my chances.
Not a good night at the office, saw Brendan Ryan pitching 2 scoreless innings, dude was the best Yankee pitching, not good.
Sup with the Yankees? they turned into the Mets when they couldn't score.
It looks like the both the Yankees and Jays will be in the playoff, of course you want to win the division and avoid those 1 game elimination games. Hate those!
Yea the NY baseball scene sure is exciting right now, it's great that both teams are in it, but I think its time NY has the Mets represent NY. HAHA
