A letdown Sunday but we still in it.

It's that time of the year as baseball fans begin scoreboard watching and both the Mets and Yanks have our attention as the wild card is still within their reach, but after a week in which both NY teams went 4-2 for another winning week they ended things on Sunday with a letdown as the Mets and Yankees failed to complete the sweep but hey we still in it.

Lets me start off with the Yankees who after mashing the ball on Friday and Saturday failed to mustered a single run in the finally as the Baltimore Orioles maintained a 3.5 game lead on the Yanks thanks too Kevin Gausman who held the red hot Yankees bats in check for the 5-0 win.

As for the Mets...they also had lopsided wins on Friday and Saturday but also could not complete the sweep as once again the story line continues to be the injury bug.

You can't make this stuff up and I know I sound like a broken record but on Sunday no Cespedes and no Neil Walker and than in the 1st inning the Mets lost Asdrubal Cabrerra so without the bats in the lineup not much was mustered as the Mets fell to the Phillies.

Without Cespedes and Walker it was time for Curtis Granderson and Jay Bruce to step up and stop stinking up the joint but it was the same old from these 2 who continue to look lost at the plate striking out at an alarming rate. Jay Bruce who I did not want during the trading deadline has been a total failure and the pressure to perform is mounting as Bruce has begun to here the jeers from the Mets faithful who have begun to lose faith with Bruce.

So this is what we have starting tonight as 5 more weeks of baseball remain in the season.

The 67-62 Yanks get their week started with a 3 game series vs. the 68-62 KC Royals as they hit the road vs the defending champs who right now are one of the hot teams in the majors. This is going to be a tough series for the Yankees but hopefully, for them, they can keep pace with the good play of late but it won't be easy vs the proven Royals.

As for the 66-64 Mets, they start off the week with a 4 game series vs the 67-63 Marlins who send out their ace Jose Fernandez tonight taking on the forgotten one time Mets prospect Rafael Montero who will be making his season debut. Yea the Mets rotation was once their strong point but as you can see these days they don't look too strong with Montero and guys likeRobert Gsellman and Seth Lugo currently filling in in the rotation.

Yeonis Cespedes will be back in the lineup tonight but no Walker or Cabrerra. Gary Sanchez is in a slump as he went 4-2 with no HR's yesterday and looks to start another streak tonight.

That's all I got right now so get your snacks ready and enjoy the games tonight as I catch you on the rebound.

Good start for the Mets as Cespedes comes up big with the walk off. I know this is going to sound crazy but I wouldn't be surprised if the Mets make a run at the division. Not saying that they'll win it but I'm telling you, they'll at least make it interesting.
As for the Yankees, tough start to the trip. The Royals are playing like the Royals for the last 2 years. Yankees were able to make a game of it but it was too late and they couldn't overcome the deficit.

A run at the division? slow down, now how the hell do you see the Mets making a run at the division when they can't keep players healthy and the rotation is in shambles? If they make the playoffs it's going to be a WC and even that will be a mission under the conditions this team is currently at.

Cespedes came through and I just hope he can stay healthy because without him the Mets don't have a chance. I didn't think Jose Reyes was going play like he's been playing considering how he has declined since leaving the Mets but man he's been playing like the old Reyes, I was sad when he was let go because you could tell he just wanted to be a Met and I think that now that he's back he's rejuvenated and happy. With Reyes and Cespedes the Mets have a chance.

The Royals are tough right now, I don't think this series is gonna go well for your Yanks.

They'll make a run, that's all I'm saying. They play the Nats I think 6 more times and I think they'll make it interesting. I don't think they'll catch the Nats but they'll make them sweat. You're right, without a healthy Cespedes the Mets don't really stand a chance so thats the biggest x-factor. Reyes has been great, I think being back in NYC was what he needed.

The Yankees made it a game last night but the Royals are rolling right now. I'm not mad, I'm a big picture guy so I'm ok. I was thinking about this team, they've been rebuilding on the fly and stayed competitive, even made the playoffs last year. Then this year, they were sellers at the deadline and then have been better and much more exciting since then. Think about that for a second, that never happens...well until now. Let's see how things play out tonight.

Well you have to be realistic and I know you are but don't forget the Yankees are rebuilding, that they are actually being competitive while doing this is just gravy, they are only 3.5 games out but they have so many teams that are in front of them and that is a lot to ask for a team that is rebuilding. Another thing is that playing all these kids while still in a playoff chase is an experience that can only be of a benefit. If they get in this year it will be some feat.

The Mets may make a run but they will fall some 4 games short of the Division, but that all depends on Cespedes being in the middle of the lineup.

Oh, I've been saying that the Yankees wont make the playoffs this year, too many teams to jump over. I'm just enjoying this because the kids are playing and they're contributing. Most teams when they sell at the deadline just go into the tank but the Yankees have gotten better.
