Yanks turn the page, as the Mets struggles continue.

It was a crazy week of baseball in NYC as both NY teams were home dealing with the sizzling hot weather but the real action was over in the Bronx where the NY Yankees had a bazaar weekend in which they celebrated the past and the present.

It all started on Friday as the NY Yankees had decided to give Alex Rodriguez a day at the stadium as the attention grabbing AROD was having his final day in pinstripes. AROD contributed and helped the Yankees win the game and even played some 3B for about 2 batters, before being taken out by Girardi as AROD walked off the field and got some dirt for the last time as it was good riddance.

It was a weird day at the stadium and even comical at times as the Yanks celebrated a guy who everyone knows as a cheat and fraud who made the organization look so bad on so many occasions.

This is the way the Yankees wanted to go about it when dealing with all this AROD controversial stuff but in the end the NY Yankees had finally moved on from the lightning Rod for good.

Then on Saturday the Yankees had another special day at the stadium as they celebrated the 1996 WS championship team as everyone was back the very next day to celebrate the 20th anniversary  of that 1996 season.

Derek Jeter who was not there on Friday for AROD, was there on Saturday.

Then on Sunday the Yankees continued with their weekend long festivities by celebrating the legacy of Mariano Rivera with a plaque in monument park. When you break it all down, 1 day the Yankees were honoring a player who in 13 years only won 1 WS title and the next day they were honoring a real winner in Mariano Rivera who had 5 rings, makes no sense.

But what about the games? The baby bombers were on full display on Saturday as Aaron Judge and Tyler Austin made their ML debut and went on to make history when they went back to back and belly to belly in their 1st major league at-bats. Aaron Judge introduce himself in a big way to the Yankee faithful when his a monster HR went over 450ft too straight away CF to the black.

The Yankees went on to have another winning week going 4-2 as they continue to win games despite the team being in a transitional state. Yes the baby bombers have given the Yankee fans some new life to the games and to a team that had been too stale for far too long.

They are still in 4th place, 6.5 games out of 1st, and 4.5 out of a WC, but the Yankees are much more exciting these days with the youth movement on full display for the next 6 weeks.

I have to admit, but at the moment the NY Yankees have more juice than the Mets.

Speaking of the Mets, they continue to struggle to win games in a consistence basis, but on Sunday they did manage to win back to back games for the 1st time in over a month. but it was another losing week as they went 2-4.

The Mets also lost another key player in Asdrubal Cabrerra who did not play a game this week as the injuries continue to reek havoc.

For the most part the Mets pitching continues to keep the Mets within striking distance and on Sunday it was Steven Matz who pitched a no-hitter up until 1 out in the 8th before Alexis Ramirez broke the no no.

But scoring runs and keeping players on the field has made things difficult for the Mets to make a legit run and at the moment they are 10.5 games back of 1st place as they can forget about the division, but are lucky to be just 2 games from a WC spot.

Yeonis Cespedes is too come back on Friday and Jose Reyes is already back so offensively things should get better but Cespedes has to come back and stay healthy as the Mets are hoping that pairing Cespedes with Jay Bruce in the middle of the lineup they can catch fire and make another run.

It will not be easy for the Mets catching up to the Cardinals, Marlins, Dodgers and Pirates, all whom are in front of the Mets for that final WC spot, but everyone has injuries and this week the Marlins lost Giancarlo Stanton for the season and the Cardinals just had their SS Aledmys Diaz and LF Matt Holliday go on the DL, and the Dodgers won't have Kershaw.

Tonight the Mets start a 10 games road trip that starts in Arizona for 3 with the Snakes who swept the Mets at Citi this past week, then it's off to SF for 4 with the Giants. Bartolo Colon takes the ball tonight vs Robbie Ray as the Mets look to make it 3 in a row.

As for the NY Yankees they take on the Blue Jays tonight at the stadium than finish off the week on the road with 3 more vs the Angels as the youth movement continues.

Well so much to say...where to begin. I guess we'll start with ARod. Friday night, the way things were handled I think was just right. Alex got his acknowledgments, it wasn't over the top and the Yankees gave him a nice send off, when they really didn't have to. They could have just released him outright but giving him a few at bats at home and having him come out in the 9th to play 3rd and get one final ovation was a nice touch. This past weekend's series was such a contrast of honoring the past with the great 96 team and then retiring the GOAT number 42 on Sunday but like you said the excitement was all about the Tyler Austin and Aaron Judge. Talk about making an introduction by going back to back on their first major league at bats. That game on Saturday was the first time in Yankees history that they had 5 players, 26 or under homer in a single game. Since the beginning of the month they split with the Mets, took 2 of 3 from the Indians. Red Sox and Rays and then took tonight's game vs. Toronto behind a brilliant pitching performance by the youngster Chad Greeen and then Clippard, Warren and Betances locking it down for the 1-0 win. Judge came up with the lone RBI tonight. Yes, this is a much more exciting team to watch now with Sanchez, Austin, Judge, Didi, Castro and hell even Hicks is starting to play better. Chances are that they won't make the playoffs but they have a shot and if you had asked me a month ago I would have said no way and even more importantly that is that the kids will get a chance to really play in some meaningful games over the next few weeks which I think will prove to be big in the development of these guys.

As for the Mets, another bad week and this week doesn't seem to be off to a good start as they're currently down 8-5 in the 8th. Mets better try and find a way to win this one as the Marlins already won today and the Pirates are up in their game. As crazy as it sounds I still believe this Mets team will make their run. I'm not convinced at all on the Marlins, Pirates, Cardinals, Dodgers/giants and I think with Reyes, Cespedes and Bruce and the Mets running out Noah, deGrom and Matz that they'll find a way to get one of the wild card spots.

Saw the game last night and I thought they were going to lose it in the 9th, Betances got out of it with that hot shot double play and gave over. Yea man the Yankees are a lot more interesting with the kids instead of the same old over the hill drecks. Yankees got the pitching tonight thanks to Chad Green so a good start to the week.

These next 6 weeks are going to be a lot more interesting when I turn over to check on the Yankees, You know I'm not rooting for them but they got my attention with the kids on full display.

Really like the catcher Sanchez, and Judge is a monster, the guy looks like a replica physically of Giancarlo Stanton, Once you get rid of Teixiera next year you bring in Greg Bird in the mix and it gets even better for the Yankee.

Not a good start as the Mets have now lost 4 in a row to the Diamondbacks, Colon didn't have it and was knocked around as the Mets lost more ground.

I really hope the Mets can turn things around, to me the key is Cespedes, if he can come back and stay healthy the rest of the way.

Really like the addition of Jose Reyes but not sure of Bruce, I didn't like the move of bringing him on but I'm hoping Jay Bruce can get hot, just not sure he was the right fit. I still think this may be one of those years where it was not meant to be for the Mets.

Not a good couple of days for the Yankees. Rain delay really messed things up on Tuesday and then CC got smacked around yesterday, on the bright side the kids keep up coming up for the Yankees.
Another unimpressive showing for the Mets in Arizona. Big series for them in SF vs the giants. Looking forward to tonight's pitching matchup tonight. Lets go Mets!

Yea a couple of let down days for both teams. Sanchez is really looking like the real deal. Mets continue to lose vs the Arizona. Mets not looking good.

Yeah, it looks like the Yankees might have their catcher of the future. For whatever reason the D'Backs had the Mets number this year, they're only 4 games back and they're playing the giants this weekend so they can make up serious ground. Is Cespedes back?

Man the Mets just keep losing ground, by the time Cespedes comes back it may not make a difference. The Mets look done.

RN said...

Yup...I'm finally in agreement with you. Mets are done. Thanks for nothing these last couple of games.

stick a fork on the Mets

Watch them go on a run now.

Yea I know, but that's baseball, you win 3 in a row and all of a sudden your optimistic again so I'm sure the Mets will have my hopes up again.
