The 2nd Half Begins

It's been a while since my last post but what can I say? You see my Mets have not performed to my expectations and so my interest has been on other things and not baseball. But at the same time I feel like I got an obligation to myself so here I am again trucking on.

It was June 9th and in that last post it was all about the NY Yankees who at the time where the early surprise of MLB, but not so much of late, but more of them in a minute.

The Mets were already some 10 games back in the standings and I had already given up hope to the season calling it a year in which it was not meant to be. Once again it was the injuries which had sunken the Mets, and all that was left for me to keep me excited was a call up from Amed Rosario. That has not happened yet as I still wait for the day when the NY Mets can inject some excitement back into the fanbase.

Today is July 14th so as you can see it's been over a month as the Mets still linger in that not meant to be mode. They are 39-47, in 4th place, and still today there is no Rosario and as we get closer to that infamous trading deadline where real changes can happen.

I try to be optimistic but I'm instead looking for excitement, that is why I want the Mets to give this season up and bring up Rosario and Dominic Smith and move on, sell, and prepare for next season.
I said many times before that this is baseball and anything can happen but at the same time why not do a little of both.

What I look forward in the 2nd half is of course these 2 prospects plus I want to see how Michael Conforto finishes off his 1st full season. Others I am keeping my eye on is Steven Matz and Zack Wheeler, both who need to set it up and show more. Matz needs to stay healthy and put together an impressive 2nd half the rest of the way and same goes for Wheeler.

As far as the Mets being sellers, I like what Jay Bruce has done this season, I have been clear in the pass about Bruce not being my type of player, but he's been able to change my mind this season. Bruce has proven to me that he is one of those players that always plays hard and cares, but the problem for Bruce going forward with the Mets is that he just does not fit in the plans. The Mets need a CF and Bruce plays in RF and I think that positions belongs to Conforto so the Mets need to trade Jay Bruce and get some chips. As far as everybody else on the team, like to keep guys like Addison Reed but I'm pretty sure he may be a goner soon, Wilmer Flores is another I would keep because he's clutch and worth keeping IMO. Obviously Jacob deGrom isn't going no where but the rest who are here and healthy are expendable.

And now let's look at the NY Yankees....

In my last post the Yankees were 34-23, in 1st place as the "Baby Bombers" had changed the plans in their 1st year of transition baseball, but since then the Yanks have struggled mightily to win games and have taken a hit.

Injuries have played a roll but I just think that the kids have found out that this is not as easy and it was early on and that things have just even out a bit. Since June 9th the Yankees record is 10-17, yea things have not been so good but still you have to be happy with the 45-41 record today and the fact that they have a new star that they can honestly hang their hopes when it comes to the offense going forward.

Aaron Judge is the real deal, the guy is a monster who we once compared to Giancarlo Stanton physically and now he has surpassed all that in just his 1st full season. The guy is a machine like presences and his raw power reminds me of the Rocky 4 and that Russian dude Ivan Drago, Judge is a freak!

Yea Aaron Judge has taken over and if the season ended today you have to give him the MVP. Pair him with Gary Sanchez and the new cat, Clint Frazier, and the Yankees seem to have their young nucleus with a few more down in the system getting their seasoning, but it seems to be all offense. This is the opposite to the Mets and their pitching nucleus.

What really impresses me about these 3 is that all 3 have their heads on right, when you here them talk, you can tell that they are all business, no joking around that you see in players like Jose Reyes, just to give you an example.

As far as the pitching goes I think the Yankees will have a tough time and that their chances of making the playoffs will rely on Masahiro Tanaka giving them a much better 2nd half.

As I writing this while listening to WFAN-there is a news flash, Michael Pineda is out for the season with the dreaded Tommy John, so things just got a little tougher.

It wont be easy but the Yanks have a chance to get things back on track and a possible playoff berth is still within reach, there is excitement in the BX and more noise to be made with the young cats running the show and it starts today vs the 1st place Boston Red Sox.

Yeah...what can you possibly say about the Mets. If you're a Mets fan you hope that they can get something for Granderson and Bruce and you try and get some pieces in return. Time to bring up the kids and see what they can do.
As for the Yankees, things have hit a bit of a rough patch with all the injuries but to me as a somewhat reasonable Yankees fan, it's all about what the kids are doing and seeing them get better and better. To me it was never about 2017 so all of this is house money as long as Sanchez, Judge, Frazier, Montgomery and everyone else continue to play better. I would have liked to have seen Torres up here but unfortunately he got hurt and is out for the year. The other thing I'm really looking forward to is to see how the kids react to playing big games in September, that'll be really big for these guys in their development. Like you said, their is excitement in the Bronx right now with this team.

Yea Granderson is another one I forgot to mention who the Mets will hopefully move along, I didn't think much of him when the Mets signed him thinking his best days were behind him, but I have to say Curtis was worth it and his tenure as a Met was a positive.

That was a tough lost by the Yanks, not the way you want to start the 2nd half, you know I was loving it. The kid Torres I don't think was going to come up this season, I think the Yankees were looking at him more for next season anyways, I think you can expect him to come up sometime in the middle of 2018. Jordan Montgomery has been a nice surprise for sure but Severino is more of the real deal.

Yea it's going to be interesting to see how these kids play down the stretch in September.

Was just looking at the standings, its a long shot but the Mets aren't out of it. If they get the sweep tomorrow vs the Rockies, they'll only be 7.5 out, its a bit of a long shot because of the teams that are in front of them but we've seen crazier things happen. They have 4 vs the Cardinals at home, the Cards are one of the teams that they are chasing so if they can take 3 of 4 they'll be in good shape but if they lose 3 of those then that's it and you have to really look at selling off what you can.
As for the Yankees that was a tough loss on Friday night, losing the game without having anyone hit the ball out of the infield is tough but thats going to happen every now and again. Then look at today, Severino going toe to toe with Sale and then having Holliday tie it up in the 9th and then win it in the 16th. The much maligned bullpen came up big today, 9 innings, 0 runs. Let's see if they can build off this going into tomorrow's double header.

Like I've said B4-I try too stay optimistic, I'm hoping for a nice turnaround in this 2nd half and so far the Mets are off to a nice start, but it's 2 games. Reyes has begun and Cespedes needs too stay on the field and be Cespedes. Yea it's a long shot but this is baseball and that's why we watch with hope but the NL-WC situation won't be easy to overcome.

Big win yesterday for the Yanks, all those extra innings and another loss would had been a real tough one but the fuckers got it done. That Chris Sale is one nasty mofo, Severino has really turned it around this season and is the de-facto ace to me. Big double header today, Yanks can't afford to get sweep. Been keeping my eye on the Rays, they playing some good baseball of late and look to be the Yanks main competition in the 2nd half.
